Music in Our School Month
March is nation-wide...Music In Our Schools Month. We will be celebrating all month long with special music trivia questions on the announcements and there will be a Mustang Meeting at the end of the month where each grade level will be featured in a performance that either celebrates music or shows off a skill they have learned in music class this year.
You are invited to the March Mustang Meeting on March 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
- Music in Our Schools Performances
- Read-a-thon Results and Rewards and Celebration
Effective immediately, in a constant attempt to strengthen our safety/security procedures, all parents must sign in with ID for Mustang Meetings. Additionally, while we appreciate our parent support at the meetings, we will no longer invite our guests to join students at the end of the meeting.
Also, just a reminder that we encourage families to follow our normal dismissal routine on days when our Mustang Meeting is at the end of the day. Please allow your child to return to his/her classroom and meet you in our front lobby (at the parent pickup door) at dismissal time. If you plan to do so and your child does not normally get picked up, please write a note indicating this dismissal change on the day of the Mustang Meeting.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Pennies for Patients
Pennies for Patients campaign has begun and parents and family members can donate online at http://events.lls.org/pages/epa/ShoemakerElementarySchoolMacungie-2018 or they can put money in the boxes the children sent home. Our collection will run until March 16th.
Each year, approximately 4,000 new cases of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) are reported in the United States. Mantle cell lymphoma is one of about 100 different types of lymphoma, a group of cancers that develop when white blood cells in the lymph nodes become malignant and grow uncontrollably.
Despite advances in the treatment of MCL, patients face a challenging prognosis. It is a particularly aggressive disease, with a short remission to standard therapies and a median overall survival of four to five years.
While we know considerably more about MCL today compared to 10 years ago, there is still more work ahead of us to address this urgent, unmet medical need.
That’s why The Sarah Cannon Fund at The HCA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of HCA Healthcare, has committed $5 million to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to support two leading-edge research programs.
- A team led by Dr. Selina Chen-Kiang at Weill Cornell Medicine will investigate the efficacy of a therapy originally approved for breast cancer for the treatment of MCL patients.
- At City of Hope, Dr. Larry Kwak and Dr. Michael Friedman will lead a team studying novel immunotherapies to control MCL. Immunotherapy involves harnessing the power of a patient’s own immune system to fight cancer.
LLS and Sarah Cannon share a commitment to advancing therapies for blood cancer patients and providing access to the latest treatments close to home. Together, these research efforts will help accelerate innovative new treatment options for MCL patients.
Please help us continue to fund the most pioneering cancer research of our time.
