Justin Cosgrove, Assistant Principal - BHS
Happy October to everyone. We have two more weeks left in the first quarter.
We've been keeping the students very busy. Our seniors will be taking the ACT tests on October 26-28. The student leadership council is working on plans for Homecoming, which we are planning for the last week of October.
Our club days have been a great opportunity for students to be active in the school. Some of the clubs we are offering are Drama Club, Student Leadership Council, Debate Club, Drumline, Color Guard, Yearbook, Outdoor Club, N'Vision, Outta Sight, and Chess Club. These are fun ways for students to socialize and learn. Our staff has been dedicated to making these clubs an integral part of the students' school experience.
I want to thank everyone for their continued support of our program.
Believe You Can and You Just Might – A Lesson In Determination
James Crozier, Orientation & Mobility Specialist
DeJonae, a Senior in the Blind High School, has always wanted to learn to ride a two-wheel bike. She had bikes when she was younger with training wheels, but, she never was able to ride one without them. During a recent O&M lesson with Mr. Crozier, she decided that this was a goal she had to master before she graduated.
DeJonae remarked “Mr. Crozier always starts lessons off with asking, 'What can I teach you today?'" I knew that riding a bike was a goal before I graduated and I felt like if anyone was going to be able to have the patience and to not give up until I did it, it would be him. It started off a disaster. I had no confidence, balance was horrible, and I didn’t know exactly what to do. Mr. Crozier kept giving me feedback and instruction and no matter how many times I fell, he kept picking me back up, believed I could do it, and gave me a specific area to focus on and get better at. Well, 30 minutes later, I did it. I rode that bike in an area on campus and I was so excited and proud. I could have kept riding all day. I did it. It was a good lesson that with some patience, determination, and some good feedback and instruction that boosts your confidence, you can do anything you put your mind to.”
Congratulations DeJonae!
