Monthly Updates for Families
This Past Month...
We had on display the 4th grade longhouse projects for all to enjoy. The projects highlighted what the students learned about the in regard to the lifestyles and resources of the New York Native Americans. Students were able to share their learning and hold rich conversations at home as well. Thank you to all the families who made this project an experience to be shared.
November came with so many celebrations as well. The students sock hopped their way past the 50th day of school in style as well as welcomed the first snowfall of the school year. The tradition of the Thanksgiving play was very special as our youngest learners took the stage proudly to bring us all together before a short break to be with our families. Be sure to play the video and see snapshots of the month below
While You are at Sheridan Hill....
Also, if other family members are planning to attend functions, be sure to remind them about bringing their photo ID. Registering visitors now will quicken the process during larger functions.
Home-School Connections
Do you ever ask your child, How was school? or What did you do today? and get answers like, "fine" and "nothing". Here are some questions a kid might be more likely to answer at the end of a long school day:
- What challenged you today?
- If school were a ride at the fair, which ride would it be? Why?
- What would you rate your day on a scale of 1 to 10? Why?
- If one of your classmates could be the teacher for the day who would you want it to be? Why?
- If you had the chance to be the teacher tomorrow, what would you teach the class?
- Did anyone push your buttons today?
- Who do you want to make friends with but haven't yet?Why not?
- What is your teacher's most important rule?
- What is the most popular thing to do at recess?
- Does your teacher remind you of anyone else you know? How?

Coming Early? Running Late?
What if there is a change for the end of the day?
We recognize that there are times when you might need to pick up your child early from school or need to change their of placement for the end of the day. A note at the beginning at the beginning of the day is preferable.
We ask that you contact the school early in the day if you need to make a change to your child's after school routine. Please do not depend on voicemail or email communication with the teacher as they may not get a chance to check these forms of communication while working with children. Please contact the school office before 1:00 PM with the change request.
