Waterford News

February 2016

From Mrs. Overton

Dear Parents,

This year, we have transitioned to online newsletters for our parents and community members. We feel that this has been a positive move but I would like to gather feedback from all of you on the new format of the newsletter and what improvements we can continue to make. Please click on the button below to take the anonymous survey. The survey is only 5 questions and should only take 5-10 minutes of your time to complete. I appreciate your feedback and participation in the survey.

Hacienda Gives Back Night

Another opportunity to support your Waterford Elementary PTO is coming on Thursday, February 25th, 2016. The Goshen Hacienda will be hosting a “Hacienda Gives Back Fiesta” all day long and 20% of all proceeds will be donated to our school as long as a “Hacienda Gives Back Token” is provided to your server. All Tokens must be handed out prior to arrival at the Goshen Hacienda restaurant. If Tokens are handed out at the restaurant Waterford Elementary PTO will receive no proceeds from the fundraising event.

Another way to participate is to sell Hacienda Gift Cards to your family, friends, and parent’s coworkers. The gift cards can be sold for any amount beginning at $5.00. The gift card order form and money needs to be turned in by Tuesday, February 23rd in order for the gift cards to be distributed on Friday, February 26th. Checks are to be made payable to “Waterford Elementary PTO”.

The Waterford Elementary PTO appreciates each family’s support and effort as we try to make funds available to our students’ teachers and school staff so they have the supplies they need and can participate in amazing field trips.

Kindergarten Luncheon

Parents of our Kindergarten Students,

You are cordially invited to join us for a Valentine's Day Luncheon. The luncheon will be on Wednesday, Feburary 10, 2016 from 12:00-1:15 pm. You will enjoy a wonderful meal of chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, peas, wheat roll, and dessert. Tickets will need to be purchased if you will be eating with your child. Those that are present will also be placed in a raffle for a chance to win a bouquet of flowers OR a box of chocolates. After lunch you will be invited to go to your child's class for a student/parent Valentine craft activity.

Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Delay/Closings and Automated Calls

**Please see the information below regarding the automated calls that go out if there is a delay or school closing.

According to the Technology Department, the automated GCS calls will go to the first phone number listed for the parent(s)/guardian(s) with legal custody checked in SMS.

This means if you do not want to receive calls on your home phone at 5:30 am, you need to indicate to us which number you want the calls to go to.

For example, if a parent wants these calls to go to their cell #, this should be the first number listed on their contact information.

Please call our office to request changes or if you have any questions about the automated calls.

Scholastic Book Fair

If your child asked you for four hours of your time, would you give it? Our spring book fair is held each year during April (this year, April 15-22). In order to give students the opportunity to really enjoy the books, and to shop the book fair, we have been open for the school day each day of the week. To do this, we need volunteers to help work at the fair. Can you spare four hours? If so, please contact Veronica at waterfordelementarypto@gmail.com. We need your support!

2nd Grade Reading Camp

Reading Camp will be begin on Feb. 2rd and go through March 26th. The program is sponsored by the United Way and provides reading support for our second grade students. Volunteers meet with students each Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4 p.m. to help build their reading skills.
