Blessings in a Backpack
Backpack drive for the kids in NYC
NYC Backpack Drive
Andrea writes: Aside from the important work of disaster recovery that is being undertaken by organizations such as the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, etc. there is another very important need that must be addressed for the children impacted by Sandy to restore a sense of normalcy. As many students begin to return to schools that have been cobbled together, they are without basic school supplies and backpacks, etc. which were destroyed in the storm. The PTA of my son's school is organizing a backpack and school supply drive. We are working directly with local/regional schools to place donations (Their goal is to get backpacks and fill them with basic supplies 1-2" binders, pocket folders, pencils/pens, looseleaf paper, dividers with pockets and composition notebooks etc).
Since I know it may be more difficult and costly logistically for all of you in other parts of the country to actually ship backpacks or school supplies to NYC, it may make the most sense for me to collect financial donations from those who wish to participate and shop for backpacks and supplies on your behalf.
If you would like to participate, please email me at ajsteinkamp@gmail.com with your pledge amount and contact information. I will then send you an email outlining ways you can get your pledge amount to me.
All pledges must be received by Friday, November 9th at noon to allow time for me to shop for supplies over the weekend in advance of our backpack distribution early next week.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and support of this important effort!
