Hot Summer Construction Promises Cool Fall Classrooms!

Marie Murphy School is undergoing major construction work this summer as all existing univents in classrooms are being replaced with new univents that will provide heating AND cooling. The long wait is over - Marie Murphy's classrooms will be air-conditioned this fall!

Additionally, all three math classrooms have been outfitted with new flat panel display technology, replacing aging Promethean boards. These tech displays work in better conjunction with iPads and provide a higher quality visual experience for all students.

Lastly, the usual summer work of cleaning, repairing and updating is taking place, creating a very busy, very loud, and very dusty Marie Murphy this summer!

Big picture

Avoid the Summer Slide!

With nearly two and half months from the last day of school in June to the first day of school in late August, it's completely understandable that the vast majority of students will experience some amount of summer regression. However, the articles below give ideas and tips for parents to engage their children in different learning activities to help ensure that the summer slide is minimal and that kids return to school ready to learn.

All of the above articles, and any of the other of millions of articles you can google about summer learning loss, ultimately all emphasize the same thing - making time for regular, formal reading, writing, math and communicating during the summer does a world of good in preventing summer learning loss.

"We're putting the band back together."

Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Jauch, the Board of Education, and the leadership of Mr. Mike Lepley and other Avoca parents, band will return to Marie Murphy and Avoca West this upcoming school year! Mr. Kyle Anderson, of Music Education Services, will instruct students at both schools in small group lessons as well as whole group rehearsals. Additionally, time has been set aside in the schedule to provide instruction for any new students wishing to join the band. More information about the band program will become available as we start the school year.
