Peek at the Week

LANGUAGE ARTS -

This past week's language arts class was so much fun! We learned more about how businesses work, advertising, supply and demand, market differentiation, and more! Student worked well together creating a business plan, commercials, and billboards. Check out the pictures below. Thank you to all the parents who donated lemonade and Oreos and sent in pitchers. It was a really enjoyable activity for all the second and third graders! They did a really outstanding job!!

Throughout the next two short weeks, we will be reading the last story in our Imagine It reading unit about money, learning a new grammar concept, and studying the new spelling list. Unit 3 lesson 5 will be given out on Thursday, January 21st. The tests will be Thursday, January 28th.

Currently, we are working on writing how to papers. This past week we wrote how to papers about how we each love to read. If you haven't emailed your child's picture in by today, please do so as soon as possible. Thank you! This week we will work with partners and write more how to papers that will focus on clear directions.

HISTORY-

On Thursday we wrapped up our unit about Canada. Students did a great job on their test! This coming week we will begin our longest history unit of the year all about Rome! Students will start the unit by learning about the geography of the Italy.

CHARACTER EDUCATION -

Each month students should bring in examples of the monthly character trait to hang on our class bulletin board. January's trait is Self-Control. Ask your child how they can show self-control at school and at home.

ASK YOUR CHILD

Where is Rome? What have you learned about Rome so far?

What does a how-to paper need? What is the purpose of a how-to paper?

What does self control mean? Why is showing self control important? Give examples of how you show self control on a daily basis.

Are you checking your math homework before you turn it in?

Did your planner get signed?

***Bring an example of SELF CONTROL in the media and bring it to class to hang on the bulletin board.***
