9/2/14 What we are learning!
Here is what we will be learning in the upcoming week:
The italicized questions drive what we are learning. We will focus on these questions throughout the entire unit. The statements below are the student learning goals for the week.
Reading-
- How do readers use strategies to understand characters?
- Why is it important to understand how authors communicate their ideas through characters in a story?
- How does a reader’s understanding about the author’s use of various literary techniques and formats enhance the reader’s thinking?
- I can use descriptions of characters and their actions, words, and thoughts to understand the theme of a story, drama or poem
- I can develop and refine ideas and inferences about characters.
Writing-
- How do writers use various techniques to enhance their narrative writing?
- How do narratives unfold in a way that makes sense to the reader?
- With guidance, I can use the writing process to produce high quality writing pieces-- This week we are working on drafting. We will be choosing one idea from our pre-writes and writing long on that idea.
Math- we will be finishing up the unit this week.
- How does a digit's position affect it's value?
- I can use the value of the digit to the right of the place to be rounded to determine whether to round up or down.
- I can compare and order numbers up to 10,000,000.
- I can recognize that each place to the right is 1/10 as much in a multi-digit number.
