Dear Parents,
I'd like to begin by thanking everyone for their support of our efforts to promote reading this month. I hope you enjoyed participating in the "One School, One Book" initiative and loved learning about Ivan as much as I did! I read the book with my 3rd grader and he literally asked to read it every night. Reading to, and with, your elementary-aged child is special and won't last forever, so even though we're done with Ivan, please find another book and keep reading together! Sincere thanks to Mrs. Capogrosso who brought this program to our school and involved so many families with reading over the past few weeks!
The PTO Book Fair is scheduled for April 3-5 at Bogert and all students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair during the school day. Thank you to the PTO for all of the time, support, and resources you give to our schools each year. We look forward to the joy in watching the kids shop for their favorite (or soon to be favorite) books!
Finally, I hope to see everyone at Northern Highlands on April 6 at the annual Books vs. Badges game! This evening always proves to be fun and exciting, and it’s a great night to take out the entire family and support the USR Youth Guidance Council. Go Books!
2018-2019 Placement Process
On April 2, you will receive the Parent Input Sheet that teachers use when making class placement decisions for the upcoming school year. (You will also find this form on the Bogert website.) In lieu of individual meetings with staff members, you should take time to complete the form, as it is carefully incorporated into the placement process. This is your opportunity to have a voice in the process, and the due date for the Parent Input Sheet is Thursday, April 26. More information about the placement process will be included with the parent input sheet. I kindly ask that you adhere to the directions and guidelines we’ve set forth with respect to our very thorough placement process. Also, if you are planning on moving before September, it's important that you let us know. The form by which to do so is here.
Bogert's Family Night
Below are some photos submitted by parents who spent family time together during our night of no homework. I hope everyone enjoyed the chance to catch up and do something that might not otherwise have occurred due to homework and other after school activities!
The Altmans had a cutthroat game of Sorry!
The Kardan family relaxing after dinner and talking about their day.
The Santos family decided to do some art work at Color Me Mine then head out for a family dinner at a Thai restaurant
A "Note" From Mr. Weinstein
Hello families of Bogert!
The instrumental students have been working so hard in class and at home this year. It is such a pleasure to see them make progress! The fourth graders have developed excellent routines and practice habits that have stuck with them throughout the year. These rhythms have created band and orchestra rehearsals full of great teamwork and musical achievement. We have been learning important concepts, including balancing and blending the instruments of the ensemble, playing smooth lyrical melodies, and following a conductor while keeping a steady tempo. In fifth grade, we have been advancing our musicianship as well taking on more challenging music for the spring concert. The students have also chosen one or two songs for the upcoming concerts that I look forward to arranging for them. Their creativity and willingness to take on new challenges is a delight to see!
I would like to thank the USREF for providing Bogert with an incredible musical assembly, where members of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra came and performed Something for Everyone for all of the kids. Seeing professional musicians up close can be truly inspiring and exciting, and I am so glad to have been able to share the experience with everyone at Bogert. For families with third grade students, we hope the instrument demonstrations have them thinking about choosing an instrument to play next year!
Thank you to all of the parents, who continue to encourage your children to practice and be a part of the band and orchestra. Performing for our classmates and community is such a fun experience, especially for those who have never done it before! As we approach our spring concert, I encourage you to find time to have an at-home concert with your child, where they can perform a song or part of a song for you, other family members, and friends.I am so proud of everyone’s hard work this year. Thank you for making instrumental music such an enjoyable and rewarding program at Bogert!
Be sure to mark your calendars for the 4th & 5th grade Orchestra concert on May 24th,
as well as the 4th & 5th grade Band and Chorus concert on June 12th!
Sincerely,
Jason Weinstein
