The 1960's

John F. Kennedy
Civil Rights
JFK tried to make a big push for civil rights and this helped him to win the election in the first place because he got a good word in with the black's during that time. He ultimately tried to make too big of a push with civil rights and I think this is what got him assassinated because he was trying to force it on people very quickly and just jumping into this when not everyone was ready for this stage. During this time there was still a lot of segregation in many places, not everyone agreed with what he was doing.
Poverty
He tried to help poverty in America in and as well as helping poverty abroad. He pushed for deficit spending to help the economy and he couldn't raise taxes or else that would upset the American public. He decreased the taxes and he raised the minimum wage in order to help the American people. JFK increased government spending as well and this is how we started to get in debt.
Helping countries internationally
JFK created the Peace corps in order to help Africa, Asia, and Latin American countries rebuild their economies and just to provide aid to them. He also made the Alliance for Progress to help Latin American countries with economy, technology, and to help stop the spread of communism in those areas.
Lyndon B. Johnson
Helping the Environment
LBJ tried helping the environment and he did, he saved a lot of forested land and harvestable land when his term began because he realized how important this land was for us and for the economy because it is food that we could use in these harvested lands. He created National Parks as well, these are now huge recreational areas for Americans all over the country.
Head Start
He made the Head Start program in order to help kids in pre-school and in public schools, so they could get a head start and have any help they would need in school. He realized that these kids were the future of our country so he wanted to make sure they were properly educated and ready for whatever may lie ahead of them. He focused on Civil Rights as well (Like JFK did) but he was more worried about desegregating schools.
Lasting Impacts
I think some lasting impacts of LBJ and JFK were how similar they were, they both tried to help Civil Rights, education, Poverty, and Peace corps. LBJ was a good person to back up JFK's presidency because he had the same thoughts as him and he wanted to continue what JFK had started. The time period that they were both presidents was good as well because they knew what they needed to do in order to help the country and other nations around the world.
Miranda vs Arizona
Miranda Warnings
1. You have the right to remain silent
2. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law
3. You have the right to a lawyer and have him present with you while you are being questioned
4. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before the and questioning if you wish
5. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer and questions or make any statements
The Decision
I feel like the decision was the right decision because even without the evidence from his statement he was still found guilty so they must of had hard evidence that he actually did this besides his own statement. He was right that it violated the fifth amendment and that was good because he lost having to go to prison and serve time there but he was still released to go home even though he was still guilty.
Push for Civil Rights?
The Miranda vs Arizona case was an example of a push for civil rights because he was a hispanic man who was being convicted of something that he did do but he got an unfair trial. He then brought the case to the supreme court to decide whether or not it was constitutional and it wasn't because they questioned him without his lawyer being present. It then gave him a fair trial without his statement allowing him to at least give him a better chance.
