Read to Succeed
There is not much that we do as elementary educators that has higher importance than getting kids excited about reading. It is an investment that pays huge dividends, with students who read 15 minutes per day performing better academically than 90% of their peers. On the other hand, those who read 5 minutes per day perform better than 50% of their peers and students who read just 1 minute per day perform better than only 10% of their peers.
What structures are we putting in place to ensure students have access and motivation to read during their elementary years? During our Job Alike meetings each month we will ask you to share strategies that your team is using to encourage reading and create a culture of literacy in your school. We challenge you to raise the bar and bring the level of excitement for reading to new heights for your students and staff!
AP Cadre
Our A2Ps and School Community Liaisons will begin meeting as part of the AP Cadre on September 19th at 8:30am. Weaver Elementary will be hosting our first meeting as we make our way across the district during the course of the year. Dr. Courtney Alexander will be joining us to discuss the district’s new discipline codes along with a look at interventions for attendance.
