Hello Alpine! This is Joan MacQueen's Proud Principal Casey Currigan hoping that you had a phenomenal weekend. Don't forget to change your clocks forward one hour.
This next week at Joan MacQueen is going to be busy. Monday and Tuesday, thirty students and six staff will start their training with "Community Matters." The two-day training will support our students moving forward as Safe School Ambassadors. Students will use those skills not just in school but also when participating in community events, sports, riding the bus, and various other situations where they are interacting with others.
Our enrollment questionnaire went out last week. Please ask your child if they have turned those into their teacher or the front office. If they have not, please ask them to do so ASAP. Those numbers are vital as we plan for the upcoming school year.
This week is the last week of school before our sixth graders head off to camp. It is not unheard of for students to get the jitters before they leave. As you discuss camp, please remind your child it is essential to drink a lot of water at camp. Water will ensure that they do not get dehydrated. It is also important that they leave all snacks at home. Camp Cuyamaca has this policy to ensure that we do not invite critters into the rooms. There is also no cell service at camp, so please keep all phones and electronics at home. Lastly, we will be on campus Sunday, March 15, between 10:00 am and noon for you to drop off luggage. That should make next Monday morning business as usual.
State-Required Sexual Health Curriculum
Join representatives of Joan MacQueen and San Diego Youth Services to preview the state-required sexual health curriculum. If you can’t make parent preview evening the curriculum will be on display in the Joan MacQueen office during business hours 8:00 am - 4:00 pm starting on March 16th, 2020
JMMS Enrollment Questionnaire
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our school and District are actively planning for the 2020-21 school year. As a small school district, small fluctuations in a school’s enrollment have a large impact on our staffing considerations. If you have not filled out our online survey please take 30 seconds to complete that now.

Jr. Wildland Fire Safety Day
Every year Wildland Fire Fighters take the Rt-130 Wildfire Safety Class. This Class allows Fire personnel to work safely behind Fire Lines. The Jr. Wildland Fire Safety Day is an event that will allow kids and their parents to experience the Rt-130 training that Fire Fighters go through every year.
Phones on Campus
We are all aware that middle school in 2020 is not the same as when we grew up. Today, cell phones, while powerful tools for learning are also often used to spread negative messages instantly. In order to do our part in reducing the impact of social media on students, phones will need to be shut off and placed in backpacks during the school day.
Students with visible Air-pods, phones or other electronics out during school will have those items confiscated and they will need to pick them up in the office after school. If the confiscation of their electronics becomes habitual those items will be held in the office for parents to collect. As always, thank you for your support.
