Welcome to May!
Hello Maternity BVM Family!
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week, Cinco de Mayo, and another week of eLearning! I wanted to share the script of the video that will be posted today on Facebook. I know not every family has Facebook and I did want to share some of the announcements using this platform as well.
I first want to say how impressed I have been with our great zoom attendance and how many families have been reaching out to teachers to make sure that students are doing their work and keeping up with their learning! I also want to thank all the families and students who filled out the teacher appreciate form that we posted last week. If you would like to fill it out and thank either your homeroom teacher, Ms. Jennifer for fun times during gym class, Sr. Alicia for sharing God’s message, or any other teacher in our school, please do so! We posted it on Facebook and it is also on each Class Dojo site. I have read some of the messages and they are so heartfelt. I am excited to share it with the teachers and I know they are all missing you so much!
That being said, it is Teacher Appreciation Week and I want to thank some of our very own special teachers. I want to thank all the parents, who are really a child’s first teacher. Way before children enter school they learn some of the most important values at home and given that families have been teaching all of the children these last couple of weeks, I want to personally thank each and every one of you. I always say that Maternity BVM is a family and the parents that we have are such great examples of love and care. I know we wouldn’t be able to do half of the amazing things without you. Thank you, parents! Students if you’re watched the video or your parents are reading this to you right now, give your parents a hug and tell them “Thank You!” because your parents are awesome.
We have two special announcements this week. One, we have a special social media celebration that will begin tomorrow! I am so excited about this and have been work hard with Mr. H and with Ms. Gloria on our new 8th-grade spotlight! We know how sad some of our 8th graders have been not having the traditional end of year celebrations so Mr. H and I asked them to fill out a special survey and send us a picture of themselves. They all filled it out and what they didn’t know is that we will be posting it on our social media to celebrate them! That way they can share it with their families and everyone can see what amazing 8th graders we have! They are being accepted into some of the best high schools in Chicago, have so many fond memories of BVM, and really have been the top-performing class during this eLearning! I’m so proud of the 8th graders. And this is just one of a couple of surprises we have in store for the 8th graders…so stay tuned for the rest!
The second announcement is that I will be doing two reflections here, with the help of Sr. Alicia, on our virtue and some spiritual reflections. They are reflections we did every morning and especially every Thursday during our morning assembly. Even though we are not in school, we still want to share them with the students and with your families. They are very short and go over virtues that we feel are key for optimal learning and reflecting on how we can become close to God and live his message. So here is our reflection and virtue of the month!
***Friends, it is May! We are in our last full month of school and the virtue we have for the rest of the year is really going to help us a lot. Our virtue this month is self-control. I bet right now some of you are really struggling with keeping focused at home. I bet sometimes, you just feel like playing or watching TV all day. But now is not the time for TV all day, now is the time to keep learning. We all need self-control to help us do the right thing. Self-control means controlling our actions, words, and feelings out of love for God and others. When I have self-control, I choose to do the right thing. When I have self-control, I don't let my feelings make me do something that is wrong. Jesus wants to help us have self-control. Today, think of how you can ask Jesus to help you with this new virtue. Together, we can let the virtue of self-control help us work really hard this month so we can do our best.***
I will have some even more special announcements on Thursday, but for now, have a great day BVM! Again, I miss you and will see you all on Zoom.

Bienvenido a Mayo
Jesús quiere ayudarnos a tener autocontrol.
