Teacher and Parent Resources - How to talk about Covid-19

We continue to see media coverage on Covid-19, just turning on your TV, radio or even looking at social media on your phone and its there. The problem is information overload and how do we break it down for our children to have enough information to understand but not so much that they just sit and worry. Ultimately as parents, it's our job to filter and decide how much is too much. Recently IU School of Social Work released this link and included this statement, "Parents, educators, youth development professionals, childcare providers, and others are looking for ways to help young people reduce, manage, and cope with the fears, worries, and anxieties that might be provoked by this health crisis and continue to develop the social and emotional skills they will need for managing and coping with future life challenges." https://selday.org/covid-19-sel-mental-health/ The links that include articles about how to discuss Covid-19 with your children, a comic strip to help with this conversation, the picture below of part of the comic strip, and a reminder about cyberbullying as our children are all online more than ever. As always we continue to update our website https://www.warsawschools.org/ to keep you up to date and informed.

Community Book Study Opportunity

I recently had the opportunity to hear Dan Siegel speak and he was full of great information, ideas. In one of his sessions, he spoke about the power of relationships and in that mentioned his book "The Power of Showing Up." In this book, Siegel and Payne articulate and quantify how to make parenting easier and better! If you would like to join me in a community book study, please fill out this google survey by April 3, 2020. Those interested will be contacted by email about further details of the book study. Any questions please email Gina Courtois at gcourtois@warsawschools.org
