MARY-ANGELA'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou e ngā whānau
Thank you to the PSL (Parent-School-Link) group for being so supportive of our school. A group of volunteer parents is working hard behind the school scenes to build community and raise much-needed school funds. Look out for the Christmas Raffle organised by PSL. Thank you to everyone who donated goods for this raffle.
REPORTING REVIEW
The teachers are all in the middle of preparing the final written report for 2023. You will receive this report at the end of the term. I can now let you know that this will be the last time that we produce the traditional twice-annual paper reports that you are used to. The 2021-22 review of reporting has resulted in a decision to move to Real-time, Online reporting in 2023.
This is a really exciting next step for us. The platform we will use is called HERO. This is an App-based programme that will eventually be a one-stop shop for all communication, administration and reporting. You will eventually receive regular updates on your child’s learning progress against the Curriculum, which is something that our community has asked for.
We will introduce HERO slowly to make sure we get it right - for whānau, for learners and for staff. This means that 2023 will be a transition phase, when we will open up the information piece by piece. More information will be shared with you about HERO in the new year. If you want to read more in the meantime, you can visit https://hero.linc-ed.com/
SFDS LITERACY STRATEGY
You may have read about criticisms of the NZ Education system in relation to some forms of literacy learning across Aotearoa. Throughout this year, the teachers have been learning about more effective ways to teach literacy to our tamariki. We have reviewed the systems and assessments that were previously in place, and sought to streamline what we do - to keep things simple and targeted to the needs of our learners.
Below is a simple summary of our Literacy Strategy for your information. If you would like to share your thoughts on this strategy, please feel free to pop in an chat, or email principal@sfds.school.nz
A PRAYER FOR TODAY - from the NZPray2day App
God of friendship, sometimes we can get caught up in our minds and distracted from what is important in life. Help me today to be a good friend to those around me and to understand how important friendship is.
Amen
