Personal Life
Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn was born on the 11th of December,1918 in Kislovodsk, Russia. He was educated at Rostov State University and Southern Federal University. His wife was Natalia Dmitrievna Svetlova, they had three children named Ignat, Stepan and Yermolai. Aleksandr died on the 3rd of August, 2008 at Moscow, Russia.
The story of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Aleksandr Solzhenhitsyn wanted to be a writer eversince he was young, by the 1930's he was sending his work out to be published and read by people all over the world.He graduated from the Mathematics and Physics department at Rostov-na-Donu university, but ended up fighting in World War II. In 1945 Aleksandr was arrested for letters he had written to a school friend that were critical of Joseph Stalin. Due to his arrest he spent eight years in prisons and labor camps and three years in exile. In 1956 Aleksandr settled down in central Russia, where he taught mathematics and began writing many books.
When Aleksandr's book Arkhipelag Gulag was published, he was charged with treason and exiled from the Soviet Union. Eventually, he traveled to the United States and settled in Vermont, where he continued to write. In 1990 his Soviet citizenship was restored and he returned to Russia four years later.
