Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Autumn Term - Issue 9
A word from Mr Broom
Thank you to everyone who came to the parent consultations for Reception, Year 1, Year 3 and Year 4. Having them in the hall proved to be hugely successful from what I've heard on the playground when speaking with parents.
As an update to the new build, I've submitted our authorisation for the process to go to the planning stage. Expect to see planning notices going up in the area and your feedback will be most welcome. North Yorkshire County Council have also confirmed, following looking at pupil projections, that our school will double in size over the coming years. Having been the head of a large primary school in the past, I'm keen to retain the close family feel to the school that we have worked so hard to establish this year.
Mr Wooffindin was incredibly impressed yesterday afternoon when he took our talented athletes to the sports hall athletics at Sherburn High School. The team did incredibly well with some first place finishes! I'd like to congratulate our children on their exceptional attitude and manners at the event, following a conversation from the head of PE at Sherburn High School. A very proud moment for me.
Finally, our Early Years team have been highlighted by other local schools as providing model practice and, starting next week, teachers from other schools will be visiting the setting to develop their practice. This is testimony to the hard work of Mrs Weights and her team of talented individuals.
Have a lovely weekend.

School Attendance
It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!
Congratulations to our Year 5 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 100%!
Our average attendance this week is 96.6% which is above the national average.
We have a small number of children whose attendance is well below the national expectations. These children are known as persistently absent when their attendance falls below 90%. I will be making telephone calls to parents of these children.
Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.
