A word from Mr Broom

It's been an incredibly busy week in school and with just 46 days to Christmas, it's not going to get any less busy.

Thank you to everyone who came to the parent consultations for Reception, Year 1, Year 3 and Year 4. Having them in the hall proved to be hugely successful from what I've heard on the playground when speaking with parents.

As an update to the new build, I've submitted our authorisation for the process to go to the planning stage. Expect to see planning notices going up in the area and your feedback will be most welcome. North Yorkshire County Council have also confirmed, following looking at pupil projections, that our school will double in size over the coming years. Having been the head of a large primary school in the past, I'm keen to retain the close family feel to the school that we have worked so hard to establish this year.

Mr Wooffindin was incredibly impressed yesterday afternoon when he took our talented athletes to the sports hall athletics at Sherburn High School. The team did incredibly well with some first place finishes! I'd like to congratulate our children on their exceptional attitude and manners at the event, following a conversation from the head of PE at Sherburn High School. A very proud moment for me.

Finally, our Early Years team have been highlighted by other local schools as providing model practice and, starting next week, teachers from other schools will be visiting the setting to develop their practice. This is testimony to the hard work of Mrs Weights and her team of talented individuals.

Have a lovely weekend.

Children in Need/Christmas Fair - Non-Uniform

With Children in Need next week and our Christmas Fair getting closer, we've decided to have one non-uniform day for both events. This will be next Friday.

If you would like to make a small donation to Children in Need you will be able to do this through ParentPay next week and our Friends' Association would really appreciate it if you could bring a donation for the tombola or one of our other Christmas Fair stalls Thank you again for your support.

Christmas Fair Raffle Tickets On Sale

Our Friends' Association will be selling raffle tickets in the Co-op on Saturday morning. If you would like to purchase some, please pop in to the store. Tickets will be sent home to all our families shortly.

Grapes - If you bring 'em, slice 'em

We've noticed that many of our packed lunches contain whole grapes as part of the meal. If you would like to include grapes in your child's pack up, please ensure that all grapes are sliced. This significantly reduces the chance of choking. Thank you.

Parent Helpers Required

Our teachers would really like to know if any of our parents / carers / grandparents would like to support us by spending some time in school reading with children. If you can give an afternoon, please let your class teacher know. They will be very grateful!

Staff Shout Outs

Are you impressed by what our staff do for your child? Let them know! Complete the form below.

Nut Allergies

If your child brings either a snack or a pack up to school, please help us to protect some of our children who have nut allergies by checking that the products you send with them do not contain any nuts. Thank you.

School Attendance

It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!

Congratulations to our Year 5 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 100%!

Our average attendance this week is 96.6% which is above the national average.

We have a small number of children whose attendance is well below the national expectations. These children are known as persistently absent when their attendance falls below 90%. I will be making telephone calls to parents of these children.

Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.

Mobiles on Site

Our teachers have planned exciting lessons for all our children and when they leave school, we're confident that they will want to share their day with you. Conversation is really important to your child's development and for this reason, we're asking that you refrain from using your phone on the school site at drop off and pick up times.
