Reader's Workshop: Nonfiction
Hello Parents. My name is Owen Snyder. I am going to tell you what we have been doing in 4N for Reader’s Workshop. In Reader’s Workshop we have been studying nonfiction texts. We started out with finding text structures. We looked for the four main text structures: Chronological, Problem and Solution, Cause and Effect, and Compare and Contrast. Chronological is basically Sequence of Events. The rest are what their names say they are. So, at first we did that. Then we were making summaries of different books. We had different categories of books, like Animals, Science and Technology, Oceanography, and more. We each had special categories and we were supposed to write summaries on only one of the different categories. Now we are researching extreme weather books to present to the class. That is what we have been doing in writer’s workshop in the last month. I’ll see you next time, Owen Snyder

Math: Multidigit Multiplication
Hello Haddonfield! This is Ava and Sasha with a new smore about multi-digit multiplication. You might be wondering, what is multi-digit multiplication, or how do you do multi-digit multiplication? Multi-digit multiplication is when you multiply two multi-digit numbers together. The first thing to do in multi-digit multiplication is,actually it depends on which method you use. You might be asking what are the methods that you could use to do multi-digit multiplication. Well there is: lattice, box method, partial products, bow tie, or you could also use US traditional. How do you do these methods?
For example one of the methods you could
Use box method, : Box method is when you draw a box with a line through the middle. Lets use 45x7 as an example. You know the line i made you draw before? On the left write a 4, and on the right write a 5. Put the 7 on the side of a box. Multiply 7 x 5 and 7 x 4. 7 x 4 =28, and 7 x 5 = 35. Then you add the two products. 35 + 28 = 63. 63 is your answer.

Science: Energy
Dear 4th grade kids, moms and dads, we have learned how tell what The most important thing in the world is (drum roll please) ,(dung dong dung dong) energy! Energy is the most important thing for everything on earth(and other planets ).energy is the source of everything in space or universe an insulator and conductors, a conductor tells if you can produce energy, an insulator is not an insult. But an insulator does not produce energy the energy is flowing, the conductor added just makes the circuit longer. A insulator make the energy stop flowing energy. The energy stops because the connection is dead. The connection dies because they are not connected.

We each wrote a dream we had on our part of the poster and then went over it in sharpie and then we colored the rest in. They’re were a lot of designs. Some people did different shades of blue for the sky and pink for the heart, and some people did rainbow colors and their favorite colors. It looked really pretty in the end and everybody enjoyed making it.

Some of the hardest questions were: Which of the following is a man-crafted river? -Amazon River -Nile River Did you get it? It’s really hard. Some are even harder than that! But Sophie and Owen; well, their studying paid off! Sophie, with the highest score in the class, got 15 questions right out of 20. Owen got 14, in second place. In third place, with twelve out of twenty, Anna and Jack tied. They can try again next year. Well, looks like we’re out of time! See ya again next time on 4News- with Ella and Anna!
Hoops for Heart
Hi parents of 4N! Happy New Year, and welcome to our 4N News smore! This month, we did Hoops for Heart! Hoops for Heart is something we do every year. We get our hearts pumping with excitement for Hoops for Heart Hoops for Heart is a lot of stations and had a lot of fun in hoops for heart! It also helps us keep our hearts healthy. We even have a fundraiser to raise money for the American Heart Association. To motivate us we have prizes. We had school prizes, class prizes, and individual prizes for people that raised five dollars and up. Our school prizes are Duct Tape Disaster, Red Hair Rampage, and bad buzz cut. Duct Tape Disaster is ( if we get to $10,000 dollars) where we have Mr. Bissinger stand on a chair while every kid who donated money puts a piece of duct tape on Mr. B during their lunch. Once he is completely and securely taped to the wall, our gym teacher Mrs. W will take away the chair to make Mr. B think he’ll be there the whole lunch. Red Hair Rampage is when Mrs.W will dye her hair red if we get to $20,000 it may be a bit permanent. Lastly, Bad Buzz Cut is when Mr. hecker will get a buzz cut if we get to 30,000. The class prize is for the class who donated the most money. They will get to watch a movie in the APR. each child will get a prize if they donate 5 or more dollars. But the only way we can do these things is if everybody at least donates $1 or more. Our Hoops for Heart day was on the 23rd. On that day, we had teams. The team names are the Red Lava Hot Jumping Pigs, the Blue Rainbow Dachshund Puppies of Power, the Yellow and Black Basket Bananas, and the Lime Green Jumping Jack Heart Eagles-Yeet! Each team had its own team colors, and we wore those colors on our Hoops for Heart day for team spirit. But some teams got creative and made their own decorations! For example, the Yellow and Black Basket Bananas had banana pins, yellow and black hair clips, and wristbands that had their team name on it. We got to choose our teammates. Now onto the saddest part of Hoops for Heart. A kid named Finn is our heart hero this year. He has heart disease and trying to fight it but lucky for him the American Heart Association is on the job to stop heart disease. So we are giving money to the American Heart Association so they can help kids like Finn. That is why we have this fundraiser every year. And also every year we have a hero and this year it is FINN! Thanks for listening! We hope you enjoyed our smore!
