Creating and Celebrating Excellence
- DHE10 Shirts this Friday (8/24) for our all school photo please!
- Next Friday (8/31) at 1:30pm we will have our first celebration assembly. We will cover assembly expectations and spend time celebrating academic success, great attendance, and PRIDEful behaviors.
- This Friday (8/24) your DHE teachers spent their planning time with Mr. Holt digging into Missouri Learning Standards and reviewing beginning of the year iReady assessments to effectively plan for your students learning based on their needs.
- Next Tuesday (8/28) your DHE staff will have a faculty meeting. At the faculty meeting staff members will meet in small groups to discuss what they have read, learned, and applied from the "Collective Efficacy" book we are studying. We are also working together to write personal growth plan and action steps that we will each be taking to improve as educators. We believe high expectations and learning starts with us modeling that exact behavior.
- WE READ- Each and Every Day! President Harry Truman said, "not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers." Thank you for supporting student success by modeling and encouraging reading at home as well as at school. We know our DHE students are going to be the leaders of their generation, we expect nothing less.
Recognizing DHE Teachers and Staff:
- One of the great things we do here at DHE is celebrate teachers and staff. If you would like to have your child’s teacher or someone else be recognized, please click HERE to do that.

The Power of a Community (DHE- Parents and Teachers) of High Expectations
As an educator I have always talked and read about high expectations but I decided to start digging into articles and research about the true impact of high expectations. To be honest, there are tons of articles about high expectations but I really found the review of literature in this doctoral dissertation very comprehensive.
I found the following very insightful l as I reviewed this dissertation. "The ecological theory of human development developed by Bronfenbrenner (1979), which refers to personal development as being influenced by proximal processes (Benner and Mistry, 2007). Benner defined proximal processes as interactions between the people and their immediate environments that raise the level of their development. Benner indicated that adult expectations influence children’s expectation for themselves as well for their academic achievement. The proximal process can have a direct or indirect influence on an individual." -Dr. Tracy Shells.
What we expect matters, and what we allow when our kiddos are not meeting expectations matters even more. Our focus on Husky PRIDE is focused on building our students ability to be the best they can be at each action/reaction they choose. This is the very reason there are times when we ask students to practice a routine again, or review or redo a piece of work when we have seen that student be successful before. Our combined exceptions between parents and staff contribute to their current and future success.
