MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
A big thank you goes out to all parents who attended last evening’s Fairview Follies performance. Our students did an amazing job! It is always neat to see these talents come alive on stage, and I hope you enjoyed the show. A special thank you to Mr. McGovern for all of his efforts in organizing the tryouts, rehearsals and last night’s show, writing the scripts for our emcees, and making sure everything went smoothly throughout the whole process. Thanks also to Ms. Spenner and Mr. Costello for helping keep things organized for our performers during the show and to Mrs. Hermanson, Mrs. Logar and Mrs. Larson for helping with student supervision while students were not on stage performing. It takes many willing volunteers to make the show a success!
For the next two weeks, the PTO is sponsoring a winter clothing drive. Share the love with our community this Valentine’s Day! You can donate new or gently used winter items to help local children in need gear up for the winter and stay warm. Stop by the office and pick up a tag for the Cradles to Crayons “Share the Love” drive if you are interested in helping out!
Since winter break, we have noticed an influx of students wearing smart watches to school. In some cases, students are texting or calling parents during the school day. Similar to our procedures related to cell phones, texting and making phone calls from electronic devices during the school day is prohibited. If students need to contact home for any reason during the school day, they should come to the front office. This allows us to be aware of any problem our students may be having so we can help. Due to the high cost of these watches, we encourage your child to keep them at home; however, if they do wear it to school, please review this expectation that they should not be texting or making phone calls during the school day. Thank you for your help, and please let me know if you have any questions.
Sometime during this past week or at some point next week, our fourth and fifth grade students are taking the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey. As part of the Illinois Every Student Succeeds Act Plan, the school report card now includes a variety of data pieces that describe the quality of schools. One of these data points is the student administration of the 5 Essentials Survey. This survey provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture in an individualized report measuring five “essentials” critical for school success. This is an opportunity for us to find out the student perceptions of our school. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
Thank you for taking the time to read through our school newsletter each week to stay informed on what is happening here at Fairview. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
