Constitution Day
Today, September 17, is designated as Constitution Day because the US Constitution was ratified on this date in 1787. On Friday, we had a statement read over the PA by one of our History teachers. This was provided by the district: Sunday is Constitution Day across the United States. This federal holiday commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. The Constitution created the structure of our government. It is the most important document in our country’s history and one of the most significant documents in world history.
Why do we celebrate Constitution Day today? We celebrate Constitution Day because that historic document, along with its Bill of Rights, created the first government that existed to serve its people. The Constitution was created by the people for the benefit of the people. We celebrate Constitution Day not for the history behind it but for the role it serves in the lives of all Americans. The protections the Constitution upholds are just as important now as they were in 1787. Happy Constitution Day!
Here are couple of short videos to commemorate this day in the history of our country. The second one was created by a couple for students for their government class. The week of Sept. 25 we will be celebrating Freedom Week here in Florida. We will again share what students are learning as part of their required instruction here in St. Johns schools.
Policy Reinforcement
We want to let you know that we reiterated to students they should not expect continued warnings regarding the use or visibility of cell phones, earbuds, and headphones as well as the wearing of hats and hoodies in the hallways. We want to prevent students from missing any class time for any of the issues. Dress attire violations generally result in removal or change of clothing and pick-up at the end of the day. A phone call may also occur. Cell phone and connected audio result in student pick-up at the end of the day for the first offense and parent pick-up for following offenses. We realize this would be a burden for parents so ask for your support in the continued implementation of this policy as we seek to establish the best possible learning environment for all students. Thank you!
