Summer is coming... Avoid Summer Slide!

As you prepare for summer, please consider these 9 tips from Reading Plus to support your child's reading over the summer:

1- Have your child read 20+ minutes each day.

2- Set a good example.

3- Read with your child.

4- Read for different purposes.

5- Make reading and writing a regular part of your daily home activities.

6- Talk to your child about what he or she is reading.

7- Visit your public library.

8- Play word games.

9- Set limits for screen time.

Registration Information for Next Year

New Student Registration
K5 ONLY: April 14 – June 15
Grades 1 – 12: April 23 – June 15
*If registering AFTER June 15, your family would be required to visit our school and meet one on one with a registrar or other school official to receive paper packet. Once turned in, the information contained in the paper packet will be manually entered by the school.

Returning Student Registration
Current Grades K5 – Grade 11: April 16 – June 15
*If registering AFTER June 15, families would be required to visit the school and meet one on one with a registrar or other school official to receive paper packet. Once turned in, the information contained in the paper packet will be manually entered by the school.

During the registration period for New and Returning students, parents must provide a proof of residence to the school. After June 15, parents are required to bring proof of residence and any other required documentation with them to the school to register.

What about Proof of Residency?
Every student registering (new and returning at all grades) is required to provide an accepted POR to the school during the registration window. Annually, a POR is to be placed in the student’s permanent folder. A student’s registration packet is not complete until an accepted POR has been received by the school.

Accepted Proof of Residence (POR) documents include: Electric Bill, Gas Bill, or a Rental or Lease Agreement. The top portion of the bill showing the billing address of the residence being confirmed is required.

To register: Go to the Rock Hill School District 3 Webpage and scroll down to Enrollment Information to begin the registration process. You will need your child’s username (first letter of their first name and the first letter of their last name with their canvas/lunch number) and their password (student date of birth).

End of Year Promotion Ceremony Reminders

We are looking forward to celebrating our 5th graders and their accomplishments. In the interest of safety and space, please limit the number of guests that come to the event. We are asking that no more than four people per child attend. We appreciate your cooperation as we strive to give our students a wonderful and safe celebration.

Field Day Information

For security reasons, we are asking that only those parents that have signed up to work a field day game attend field day. Please sign in at the office upon your arrival to school on May 25th to get your volunteer badge. K-2 volunteers meet in the gym by 8:30 and grades 3-5 volunteers come to the gym by 11:30 for your game assignment.

Thank you for understanding the importance of keeping our students safe and thank you for volunteering your time to our school.

Title I Information

Title I is a law under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 which provides federal funds for compensatory educational services. Compensatory means "extra." Title I provides extra teachers, instructional assistants, funding for staff development, additional materials and additional supplies in the areas of reading and math for eligible schools. Title I programs offer opportunities for parents to make suggestions and recommendations regarding programs and use of Title I funds. Rock Hill School's Title I allocation for 2017-2018 is $4,446,809.52.

Independence Elementary School Educators and Leadership continually monitors the implementation of the Title I plan and welcomes input from parents, families, school staff, and community members regarding its current and future Title I plans. If you would like to participate on the school’s Title I planning team or make comments on the plan, please contact me.
