Harlan High School Dual Credit
Application Process, Deadlines, and TSI Information
Step 1: Apply Texas Online Application
Deadline was 2/16- ONLY NEW TO DISRTICT students may complete this step
YOU ARE APPLYING FOR FALL 2024
Students must apply to Northwest Vista College in order to take a dual credit course. It is highly recommended that students complete the application WITH a parent since students must enter their social security number and answer numerous questions about their parent/guardians’ Texas residency. Detailed resources for completing the Apply Texas Online Application are linked in this document. Please do not wait until the last minute to complete the application, or you may miss future deadlines!
** This step is not complete until you email Mrs. Hernandez @ vashti.hernandez@nisd.net a copy of the submission confirmation or a copy of the email from ApplyTexas with your Application ID number as the subject. **
Important Information About Your ApplyTexas Account
- Access the Apply Texas Online Application at https://applytexas.org/.
- Create your USER account with Apply Texas. Record the email account used, username, and password for future reference. DO NOT use your NISD email as you cannot receive emails from outside of the district. Use a personal student email that gets checked regularly, not a parent email, since students will have to check this account later for emails from Apply Texas and Northwest Vista.
Step 2 (A)-Northwest Vista ACES Account
Accessing Your Account
ACES is your student account through Northwest Vista College. It gives you access to your college records and other important information. Approximately 3-5 days after your Apply Texas Application is submitted and approved, you will receive an email with your username and banner ID. The email will be sent to the email account you provided in your Apply Texas Application and comes directly from NVC. You will receive it from an “@alamo.edu” account. (Be sure to check your Spam folder!) If you do NOT receive this email, the STUDENT, not the parent, may call the Northwest Vista HelpDesk at (210) 486-4777 during business hours to gain access to their ACES account.
**If you used your NISD student email, you will not receive the email as it will be blocked.**
**The login for ACES is DIFFERENT than the login for ApplyTexas.**
Temporary Password & Changing Your Password
- Your temporary password is the first two letters of your last name, in CAPS, followed by your birthday in MMDDYY format.
- Once logged in, reset your password. Your new password must contain a special character. We recommend you use the hashtag symbol (#) followed by your 4x4.
EXAMPLE:
John Smith, Date of Birth: March 18, 2003, student's 4x4: smit6789
Default Password: SM031803

IMPORTANT NOTE
If you need to retest, you can take a retest at Northwest Vista College. For more information, visit their Assessment and Testing Center website
ALL retest attempts MUST be completed no later than May 17th, 2024
The TSIA2 is a college readiness assessment that is required for all students seeking to take a dual credit course (except Adv Spanish 3 D -- see below for more details). Students must earn college-ready scores in order to take certain dual credit classes. PSAT Exemptions are available to those students who took the PSAT and scored college-ready on the assessment. See Mrs. Hernandez if you think you've earned an exemption.
Please come to B100 if you have questions.**
8th grade students who wish to take Adv Spanish 3 Dual DO NOT take the TSIA2!
Adv Spanish 3 Dual Credit Qualification
Students seeking to take ONLY Adv Spanish 3 Dual Credit or who wish to take it in addition to any other dual credit course, take a Spanish Qualification Assessment to determine college-readiness for this World Languages course.
The Spanish Qualification Assessment is administered by the campus Spanish teacher. Those who qualify MUST complete the dual credit enrollment process. All students who wish to take Adv Spanish 3 Dual Credit must qualify on the assessment in order to take the course regardless of any college-readiness measurements on the TSIA2 or the PSAT.
