Conference Week
Dear Excelsior Families,
Next week marks the end of First Quarter and, with that, Fall Conferences. Our Fall Conferences are "goal setting" conferences where students, parents, and their TEAM teacher meet to discuss the student's goals for the year. If you have not heard from your student's TEAM teacher regarding securing a conference date/time, please reach out to them via email. You may also want to check your SPAM email in case the conference email was sorted into that folder on accident. For student's whose TEAM teachers are either Ms. Maslen or Mr. Smith, you will be contacted by another of your student's teachers to conference.
We have earlier dismissal times for our students this coming Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday due to conferences. Dismissal is at 11:55 am.
If you have not heard from your TEAM teacher by Monday to set up conferences, please email myself or my secretary, Shelly Scruggs, so that we can help facilitate scheduling. I can be reached at jkeith@byron.k12.ca.us and Shelly can be reached at sscruggs@byron.k12.ca.us.
Sincerely,
Ms. Jamie Keith

Huddle and Assemblies Next Week
This coming Monday, September 26th, is our next Huddle meeting during TEAM in the gym. Students will play a game designed by our Leadership class. We will also talk about PBIS rewards, the non-activities list (and how Q1 grades impact them), and exciting things to look forward to in Quarter 2.
- 6th grade – playing safely, being mindful of belongings, being responsible on campus (cleaning up, restrooms, etc.)
- 7/8th grade boys – horseplay, sexual harassment, bathroom vandalism, vaping
- 7/8th grade girls – rumors/gossip, social media, vaping
We will send follow-up information regarding Huddle and the assemblies in our Quarter 1 wrap-up newsletter at the end of next week.
Restroom Issues
Food dye sprayed in our B wing boys restroom
Toilet dispenser knocked off wall in our B wing boys restroom
Trash and toilet paper in our B wing boys restroom
Our boys restrooms, both the B wing and 200 hall, have experienced multiple acts of vandalism over the past month. Damage includes food dye and trash being strewn around the room, urine on the floor and in the toilet seat cover dispensers, ceiling tile damage, and damage to our toilet paper dispensers and sinks.
We have one day custodian (Ms. Anna) and limited staff on hand to monitor the restrooms at all times. When a restroom has to be closed due to vandalism that impacts all students trying to use the restroom. Unfortunately, we are often not able to determine who damaged the restroom and very few students are coming forward with any information related to restroom issues (whether it be who damaged it or that there's an issue).
We would like to keep all restrooms open for our students, but need your help. We are asking that all families have conversations about bathroom usage and respectful treatment of school facilities with their students. If you student sees the vandalism as it is occurring or walks into a vandalized restroom, please encourage them to report it to the office. Thank you for your attention this matter!
