Raptor Weekly Update
February 17th, 2023
Letter to Community
Dear Raptor Community,
We wanted to share with you all some recent trends that we have been seeing with students' use of social media. The month of February we have seen a significant escalation with student behavior and peer conflict. When we are investigating these interactions, we are finding that 90% of the peer conflict is starting on social media/text messages outside of school hours and then the conflict is leading into school causing significant behavior concerns.
We are asking all families to please monitor the social media sites, phone and computer applications that are available to your children by way of the internet and smartphone/tablet technology. The well-being of our students and providing pertinent information to our parents to keep them safe is a part of our commitment to the whole child. We have provided a list of tips and links containing resources to support you and your children.
Parents and families should keep the following tips in mind when engaging with technology:
Set expectations about having kind and positive interactions online
Create ground rules and enforce consequences
Monitor all social media accounts and text messages
Check privacy settings
Use filtering software
Get to know the technology your student is using
Limit cell phone use
Keep the computer in a central location
Talk to kids about online dangers
Get to know your child’s online habits
Urge your kids to avoid questionnaires, free giveaways and contests
Monitor the pictures and videos your child views and posts online
Be a good example of how to use social media
Teach kids about an online reputation. Once something is online, it can never be taken back.

Late Arrival Reminder
Winter Weather Reminders
- As the weather continues to get colder, we are seeing an increase in students bringing blankets instead of jackets. Blankets are not permitted at school and we want to encourage all students to bring a jacket with them daily.
- As a reminder, students will have outside recess if the "feels like" temperature is above 20 degrees. Please remind your student to dress appropriately for the weather. Getting outside for movement is important for students, we do try and go out as much as we can.
Remote Day Learning Plan
As you may have heard 27J Schools will roll over to Remote Learning on inclement weather days. (We are out of Snow Days.)
This is new for us, please be patient as we navigate this together.
If inclement weather is predicted, the district office will let us know to prepare. We will send Chromebooks and any needed information home with your child. This will typically be “just in case”. If the call for “Remote Learning” does NOT happen, we will have a normal school day the next day. If the district closes schools due to inclement weather, our plan will be as follows.
Remote Learning will start at 8:30 for Stuart Middle School.
Meeting Links will be located in Google Classroom for each class. Students will follow a condensed version of their regular schedule.
Students will have 140 minutes of Synchronous learning with their teacher and the remainder of the day will be asynchronous (They work on their own).
Teachers will be available throughout normal school day hours to support students and answer any assignment based questions. Email addresses are updated on our website.
Attendance Counts: If your child is sick or unable to attend, please call the attendance line at 720-685-5500 or report via the infinite campus parent portal.
If your chromebook is not functioning at home, students may utilize any device that can access the internet.

After signing, the form must be turned in to your student's Advisory Teacher.

If you pay your fee online we will be able to run a report that shows the fees were paid for. Fees can be paid online at https://www.sd27j.org/Page/9025. Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures
Reminders:
Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures: I am asking all families to please follow these procedures as this allows us to keep kids safe, and ensure everyone has as little wait time as possible in traffic. Please be respectful to staff members who are directing traffic as our goal is student safety. In order to ensure student safety, we need our entire Stuart community to follow these procedures. When everyone in our community follows these procedures, pick and and drop off is a very smooth process.
Pull forward all the way to the end of the drop off lane. By everyone pulling forward all the way, we can fit in 10-12 cars and this will allow for a smoother flow of traffic. Please do not stop in front of the grade level door to drop off your student. Drop off lanes can be utilized after school.
No Parking on 101st Way- If people park on 101st this blocks traffic from getting through.
No left turns onto Joplin during pick up and drop off. Signs are posted that left turns cannot be made during this time. Please turn right and help keep traffic flowing.
Please follow the traffic route that is below for pick up.
