Walnut Creek Campus 2020 Graduation
West Des Moines Community Schools | June 17, 2020
Hello, Walnut Creek Campus families!
I hope that all of you are staying healthy and safe during these unprecedented times. As you know, we had planned to try to have an in-person ceremony on Aug. 11. After careful consideration of the current situation and safety guidelines, we have decided to change our graduation ceremony plan. The guidelines we would have had to follow in August would only allow for two guests per family, for example.
This is a joyous event for our families, and based on the number of programs that are distributed each year, we know that most Walnut Creek families would normally bring several guests to graduation. A seating chart would need to be enforced, and there would not have been room in the Staplin Performing Arts Center for staff to be present, etc., because of social distancing. These are just a few of the reasons why we felt we needed to change our plan.
Please read all of the information in this newsletter
which explains the exciting plans we've made to celebrate you!

Principal
A New Way to Celebrate
Starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, we will have five Walnut Creek senior families at a time enter the Staplin Performing Arts Center lobby.
- Every family will be socially distanced from the other families.
- Staff will be there to direct everyone.
- Groups of students will be staggered every 15 minutes.
- Only five families will be allowed into the Staplin Center lobby at a time. Others will be asked to wait 6 feet apart outside.
- One family at a time will enter the left doors of the Staplin Center. Each student will have their name read and will walk across the stage to receive their diploma from Principal Davis.
- Walnut Creek staff will be in the auditorium to cheer each student as they walk the stage.
- A virtual video celebration is in the works to broadcast Aug. 11. See more details below!

WCC Virtual Graduation Ceremony Video Celebration
Because we wanted to also create a special experience where students can see all of their peers walk the stage, we are working with Bing Bang to create a virtual video celebration.
We collected student names and photos. Bing Bang will pre-record speeches and film students walking across the stage. The final video will be available for families to view online Tuesday, Aug. 11. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
