Media Literacy (Smore#1)
Media is defined as a means of communication. Media is radio, TV, internet, etc. Media literacy is the ability to interpret it. Media literacy is not wide spread. Social media is a means to connect, communicate and interact with one another. Social media links us all together with invisible string. It allows us to meet one another without being physically together. Media is news. Social media is personal news such as relationship statuses and someone’s meal. The value of news is decided by those who view it. Media literacy is the ability to comprehend media and use it. Those who are fluent in media can find out everything about everyone. Blogs, Tweeter, Facebook, Myspace, Instagram, Snapchat, Fox, CNN; all of these are considered major parts of media. Media controls everything in our century. He, who can control media, controls the knowledge of all. News networks and social media sites aim to make money. Knowledge is power; money is power; but what is media? Media is both knowledge and power. Media literacy is the ability to use the media to obtain knowledge and wealth. If a single person or organization were to gain the power of all of media, they would have essential completed world domination. It is my belief that media is everything in this current age. It binds us yet at the same time gives us the ability to be free. A lock as well as a key, media is an existence on contradictions. It is an unimaginable power waiting to be wielded.

A Simple Solution (Smore #3)
Today, the amount of conflict is extraordinary. There are an excess of people with their own ideologies. There is only conflict when there is opposition; opposition comes from differences. The only way to eliminate conflict is to all eradicate differences; complete and total destruction must be accomplished. Humans are all unique individual beings whom miserably attempt to coexist with contempt for one another. For humanity to ever exist peacefully, it must obliterate all who question a single truth. Even eliminating all but one human would lead to instability and conflict would continue to be present as there is doubt. For there to ever be true undeniable peace between every living human being, they can not exist. Only when there are no humans, will there be no conflict. Humanity has already begun a slow self destruction while it continues to rapidly propagate. I have created a plan to lead the world to its own destruction within 24 hours. Each country will receive one atomic bomb for each square mile of land it possesses. At midnight on a specified date, each countries’ military will begin to carpet bomb its own land. The bombers would be drones that will lack the ability to land and will self-destruct once out of fuel. The drones will be strategically placed to cover their own areas. By 11:59 PM on Alofi, a majority of humans will have died. Any survivors will be executed by a secondary wave of drones programmed to deploy at this time. This is the surest method to end humanity’s conflicts. There are other methods to quell the chaos of the human spirit however none are nearly as efficient. The most radical idea, that should be used as a last resort would be to attempt to understand one another and to give aid. Aid should be given for naught rather than personal gain.
Fear (Smore #4)
This is from a nightmare I had one night a few years back. It freaked me out and is still my greatest fear. It is why I love angus cheeseburgers. The night is clear. A small man walks up in a tuxedo. I am lying on my back, tied to the ground in star jumping position. I am asleep and unaware of where I am. I am having a nice dream of eating ice cream. I wake up to the feeling of someone slowly cutting upward from my waste; they stop cutting at the base of my neck. Ignoring my screaming, they proceed to breaking off my ribs. The man uses his bear hands pull them back until they snap in the middle. One by one he removes the top halves of my ribs until my organs are all exposed and glistening in the light of a full moon. He puts them in a pile to the side. I am still alive; the world hears my screams and ignores them. The man walks away with my ribs in a bag, gets in his car, and drives off. Thousands of tiny spiders and ants start crawling inside and I can do nothing to stop them. My heart is racing and I can see it pounding; my screams are still ignored. Suddenly, a cow lazily walks up and starts eating my organs. I continue screaming; no one cares. There is no funeral; everyone celebrates my death. There is a huge one week festival to commemorate this.
Goldstein's Terror (Smore #5)
The September 11 attacks (also referred to as September 11, September 11th, or 9/11) were a series of four coordinated terrorist launched by Emmanuel Goldstein upon Oceania and its metropolitan area, on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks killed 2,996 people and caused at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damage.[2]
Four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 Goldstein followers so they could be flown into buildings in suicide attacks. Two of those planes, Oceania Airlines Flight 11 and Oceania Airlines Flight 175, were crashed into the Ministries of Truth and Love. Within two hours, both of the 110-story towers collapsed with debris and the resulting fires causing partial or complete collapse of all other buildings in the WTC complex, including the 47-story 7 World Trade Center tower, as well as significant damage to ten other large surrounding structures. A third plane, Oceania Airlines Flight 77, was crashed into the Ministry of Peace leading to a partial collapse in its western side. Thousands of Oceania Citizens died. It was obviously an enemy. Although the group's leader, Emmanuel Goldstein, initially denied any involvement, in 2004, he claimed responsibility for the attacks.[1] The destruction of the Twin Towers and other properties caused serious damage to the economy of Lower Manhattan and had a significant effect on global markets, closing Wall Street until September 17 and the civilian airspace in the U.S. and Canada until September 13. Many closings, evacuations, and cancellations followed the attack, either out of fear of further attacks or respect for the tragedy. Cleanup of the World Trade Center site was completed in May 2002, and the Ministry of Peace was repaired within a year. Numerous memorials have been constructed, including the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York, the Ministry Of peace. Memorial, and the Flight 93 National Memorial in [undisclosed location].
(Edited from Wikipedia, this had to be fixed so that there was more hatred for Emmanuel Goldstein.)
Social Injustice (Smore #6)
September 11, 2001; nine eleven; the day that will forever live on in infamy. On this day in history, the United States took a hit at home; one of the few ever sustained. The day that will never be forgotten, the day on which America united against terrorism. It was on this day, that the “u” in us was remembered for what it was. It was this day that America good up as one without discrimination. Gay, straight, Catholic, Muslim, Jew, black, white; all of these labels lost their meanings on this day. A country that was 24 hours ago a melting pot of culture became one. The next day, America remembered the hate and discrimination. Hate crimes, racism, shootings, injustices, for one day, let it be forgotten once again. On September 11th, 2015, I hope that all of America will don a burqa. On this day, as citizens continue about their days pass on another on the street, they won’t be prejudice. On this day, America will unite once again, but not to attack. Americans will unite once again, as human beings.
Spoken Word (Smore #7)
Society is wrong.
watched and controlled
It's what we are all day.
We don't control our thoughts;
we don't even feel.
Big brother took control.
We allowed him to.
We are separated,
weak
Forced to conform to the minority,
we are led.
Majority follows the unquestioned leaders.
Like livestock,
we follow stupidly.
We work for them to no avail.
watched at every second.
One free thought is equivalent to wishing for suicide.
past, present, and future are predecided for us
The path for has already been built,
deviation means death or revocation of existence
We marry for the party without even single think let alone a double think.
85% of the population is kept in existence for the sole purpose of having a bottom.
We have been categorized
like food.
You are born where you are and kept there until death.
The idea of bettering yourself?
forbidden.
Considering is thoughtcrime;
Punishable by death.
We are pawns
in a game where we can only lose.
Regardless of our controller,
victory
or defeat,
we are eternal losers.
The only way to win is to fight.
We can win until we start playing.
Right now,
We're spectators when we should be players
Cows when we should be people
In hell when we should be on earth.
When we
the majority
Awaken and want it, we will have it.
The world needs changing and it needs us to do it.Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo. (Smore #8)
One in five deaths are linked to being over weight; one in nine are linked to hunger. 20% of people are eating themselves to death while 11% are dying due to a lack of food. This shows that there is plenty of food in this world. There is no reason for there to be hundreds of millions of people dying of both over eating and under eating in the same year. The bigger and most shocking issue is that there is enough food for a person to be 9% more likely to die of eating too much. There is plenty of food on the planet for the entire population to eat; the issue is greed. At the core of human nature is greed. One of the seven deadly sins, there is often a desire for more. The desire for more is what drives humanity forward; our current advancement is due to a desire for better things. The more money a CEO obtains the less money there is for those in poverty to have. The Earth has a limit on materials and the limit is enough for humans to currently coexist. This situation in which two causes of death are polar opposites of one another is a ridiculous as the title.
What's a problem? (Smore #9)
The song “Everything is Awesome” by Tegan and Sara featuring the Lonely Island, should be the theme song of George Orwell’s book 1984’s movie adaptation. In the book, the Party makes its population believe that everything is perfect. The song “Everything is Awesome” is about how everything is “awesome” when it isn’t really. The citizens of Oceania continue their day to day lives in the belief that there is no problem; their government has complete and total control of their thought process. Similar to the happiness felt for everything’s awesome in the song, the people are content with a majority of their daily lives. This song is also a theme song to another song. In both that movie and 1984, the world is an utopian society micromanaged by the government whom has complete and total control of a majority of its people. Both deal with few outliers whom are captured and dealt with. A major difference between the two stories is the main character. The theme song however should be the same. An authoritative government forces thoses in its power to believe there are no problems in the world. A citizen will never ask a question if “Everything is Awesome.”
Looking Back (Smore #10)
This year I took Media Literacy for my languages art credit. Unlike my previous classes, I was forced to pay attention and learn. In the past few months, I have learned a significant amount about analyses as well as writing. I have learned about précis, satire, and the world. The lesson I will take with me and will never forget is about the world we live in. The world is expansive, amazing, and mysterious; there are extraordinary people my age working to make a difference in society. What we see in Georgia is only one part of the many that construct the world. This was my first CP class and the first class I’ve ever taken in which I had to put forth effort to succeed in. Before taking this class, I saw the world only through rose-colored lenses and got by using minimum effort. This class has taught me to take the glasses off on occasion and look around. Mr. Zopf’s Media Literacy class is where I learned that I do not know as much as I thought I knew. In this class is the closest I have come to having my mind “blown.” It was a rude awakening to one such as I. Media Literacy Taught by Mr. Jonathan Zopf is one I would recommend to all. However perfection does not exist, there is always room for improvement. If I were asked to better this class, I would replace a wall with a window facing the trees. This class was not perfect, but there is not very much room for improvement. My experience in this class has been ideal for most core classes.
