Fulton Focus

For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District

September 22, 2017

A message from the Superintendent

Dear Parents and Patrons,

Perhaps you have noted in the local media that the State of Missouri eliminated funding for all juniors to take the ACT test this year. The ACT is used by many post-secondary institutions in Missouri for admittance and/or placement. However, your Fulton Board of Education has taken action to provide the ACT for any junior who wishes to take the test this year. The District is arranging the test date and payment. The process for your junior to sign up for the District paid ACT is being announced at FHS very soon.

As a parent you should know that Revised Missouri Statue 565.090 was revised to require school officials to report Harassment in the 1st Degree to local law enforcement. In addition to the reporting requirement, 1st Degree Harassment has been upgraded from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class E felony. The major change in 565.090 is “he or she, without good cause, engages in any act with the purpose to cause emotional distress to another person, and such act does cause such person to suffer emotional distress.” Should your student be reported to law enforcement under RsMO 565.090 you will be notified accordingly as is our practice with any discipline situation.

Finally, one hundred and nineteen families have been notified that your student’s registration is incomplete. We need the complete registration to ensure the safety of your child and others. Please complete all registration forms by the close of business, Thursday, September 28, 2017. Completed registration materials will ensure your student is eligible to participate in all school academic and extra-curricular activities.

Thank you for sending great kids to work with!

Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
