Masses and Feasts

Feast of St. John Paul the Great - Tuesday, October 22nd

The life of a saint is one in which the Gospel is luminous. In this way, the Church has received an inestimable gift in St. John Paul II. Through his life, he has shown the radiation of the fatherhood of God in humanity, or what St. Paul calls the "newness of life in Christ" (Cf. Rom. 6:4). Learn more about St. John Paul II's remarkable life and impact on the world!

Please join us this evening for a Mass in honor of St. John Paul II at 6 PM. There will be a potluck dinner immediately following in the reception room. All are welcome to attend!

School Mass at St. Bernard's - Sunday, October 27th

St. John Paul II reminds us even today that "a family that prays together, stays together." This coming Sunday, October 27th, is the School Mass at St. Bernard’s at 11:00 AM. Please mark your calendar to join us in prayer with our school and parish community. In anticipation of All Saints Day on November 1st, our Kindergarten and 1st grade students will come to Mass dressed as their saint! We will also have donuts immediately following Mass. We hope to see you there!

WHAT'S BRUIN...

Lessons in Pumpkin Carving

It's a tricky business, creating the perfect jack-o-lantern, and our third graders were eager to learn this new skill. After researching and writing up the steps in pumpkin carving, it was time for a hands-on demonstration. Students labeled the pumpkin with SBS, then worked diligently on removing the pumpkin top using the appropriate pumpkin carving tools. Once completed, they participated in the messy chore of removing the pumpkin fiber and seeds from inside. Judging from their expressions, the demonstration was both instructive and lots of fun! Now...pumpkin pie, anyone?

TEACHER FEATURE

Jessica Heintz - Third Grade

Jessica has been living in Dallas for almost three years now. She loves traveling and spending quality time with friends and family. This is her first year teaching at St. Bernard, but already she feels so blessed to be teaching here. Before St. Bernard, Jessica was teaching 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. She has a degree from Oklahoma State University and added certifications in English as a Second Language and Special Education.

"St Bernard’s community is unlike any other. I have already seen the outpouring of parent volunteers and students' eagerness to learn. I’m very enthusiastic about working here with the new administration and working in a Christ-led environment."

BRUIN FLASHBACKS!

Week 10

Last week was a relatively quiet week for our Bruins, who spent much of their time doing ITBS testing. Teachers rewarded students for their diligent efforts with extra recess time, movies, and fun events in the afternoons after testing was complete. The first quarter award ceremony was held Thursday morning after Mass, with "A Honor Roll" students being announced and receiving certificates. "A/B Honor Roll" students later received their certificates as well. Meanwhile, athletes continued their practices and games as regular season play winds down and playoffs loom on the near horizon.
