Principal's Update
Dear Wolverine Families ~
As a reminder, Adkins MS has been selected as a voting location for the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Due to COVID-19 conditions and concerns, CCISD has authorized that student instruction for this day, Tuesday, November 3, 2020, will be by Synchronous/Asynchronous learning so that all students will engage virtually and will not be present on campus at the same time the community casts their votes. Students will need to login to CANVAS for class specific instructions on this day. Face-to-face instruction will resume on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 for students who's location of learning is "on campus".
In an effort to provide instructional learning opportunities where teachers are able to give their full attention whether in the classroom or on-line, we are implementing some changes. During certain class periods and when possible, we will designate a face-to-face teacher and a virtual teacher. These changes to instructional delivery will result in schedule changes for some students. If your child's schedule will be affected, you will be notified via email the week of November 9th-13th.
For students who participate in face-to-face learning, face coverings will continue to be required. Student desk will be spaced four feet apart and when four feet cannot be maintained, the use of a physical barrier, such as a desk shield, will be utilized.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Norma Cullum
Principal
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Arrival: We encourage students to arrive on campus no earlier than 8:40am. Any student that arrives prior to that time will remain outside the campus until the first bell rings at 8:42 am. All 6th grade students will enter through the cafeteria doors maintaining a 6ft. distance. All 7th and 8th grade students will enter through the front entrance maintaining a 6ft. distance. Students who wish to have breakfast from the cafeteria may enter at 8:40am, using the double door entrance closet to the cafeteria at the front of the school. These students will proceed to the cafeteria, pick-up their breakfast and take it to their first period classroom.
Dismissal: Students will exit the campus at different exit locations based on their 8th period classroom.
News from the Library
Library
Adkins Middle School Library offers over 10,000 print books and 4,000 e-books. Students may check out two books or e-books at a time and have two weeks to return these items. If virtual students are wanting to check out a print book from our library, please send Mrs. Sanchez, School Librarian, a message in Canvas to schedule a curbside appointment.
AMS 20-21 Bookmark Winner- Congratulations to this year’s bookmark contest winner, Allyson Collado in 8th grade! She received a total of 172 school-wide votes on her bookmark. Her bookmark is now available for students to use in the library.
Accelerated Reader-Students recently took the AR STAR assessment online during their RLA class which determined each student’s reading level range and also determined point goals needed each six weeks. Students are encouraged to reach their AR goal each six weeks. The goal is to support independent reading and also increase student reading levels. Students can AR quiz on books through the AR link found in the Library Canvas course. Parents may also request their own parent AR Login by emailing the School Librarian at Kimberly.Sanchez@ccisd.us. Parents may monitor their child’s reading progress within the AR program when using their login.
Technology
Interested students who would like to bring their own device to school and utilize our campus wi-fi need to visit the library to connect their devices. CCISD Technology requires permission based on Online Enrollment prior to connecting personal devices to our campus wifi. Please note that the school is not liable for any damage or theft relating to personal devices.
CCISD has assigned over 300 Chromebooks to selected students to keep until the student either graduates from a CCISD high school or leaves the district. If you have received an email or phone call informing you of this, please contact Mrs. Sanchez, School Librarian, by phone call or email at Kimberly.Sanchez@ccisd.us . If you are no longer interested, please ensure to notify Mrs. Sanchez so that the device may be allocated to another student in need.
If your child is in need of a device or wifi hotspot, please contact the School Librarian to be placed onto the campus waiting list.
It is recommended that students bring their personal devices to campus everyday to participate in classroom instruction.
Book Club- Students read, discuss, and incorporate technology into book projects on Thursdays from 4:15 p.m.-5:00 p.m. If interested, please send Mrs. Sanchez a Canvas message to obtain a permission slip.
