December Belle River Elementary Newsletter
Belle River Sailors are safe, respectful, kind, and good friends!
November sure was a quick and cold month! We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with those you love most. The week of Thanksgiving was a short and busy one here at Belle River. I am so thankful that we saw so many of you at our Parent/Teacher conferences. We had 94% participation at this year's conferences. I am certain you all heard about the amazing things your student(s) are doing in their classrooms. I am so proud of everything our staff and students accomplish here while working hard and making the very best of our days together! I look forward to the holiday season and hope to see you all at our special school events.
As a Belle River community we work hard together to SAIL into Success!
Our expectations for all students:
S: Show respect!
A: Always be responsible!

5th Graders Visit Camp Tamarack
Our 5th grade students enjoyed a field trip to Camp Tamarack in Ortonville, Michigan. Camp Tamarack offered a unique program geared toward our 5th grade curriculum that included team-building activities, sports, and recreational events. The students participated in a simulated activity where they discovered what it took to survive as a 19th Century homesteader. Then they played a series of games that required them to think as a team. Concepts involving collaboration, leadership, respect and good sportsmanship were the keys to success during these events. Finally, students brainstormed, communicated, and constructed a design to drop a water balloon from a second story building. The constructed device must carry the balloon safely to the ground. What a fabulous trip for our 5th graders! Thank you PTO for making this trip possible.
3rd Graders Receive Dictionaries from our local Rotary. Thank you!
Scholastic Book Fair is a HUGE Success! Thank you VOLUNTEERS!
The Belle River Sailors enjoyed the annual Scholastic Book Fair this week! Students were excited to preview the Book Fair with their classes while they created wishlists to take home. Then during Parent-Teacher Conferences the Book Fair was open for business. Thanks to many wonderful volunteers our families had a lot of fun shopping and purchasing some amazing titles. Our young students were even surprised with a visit from a very special book character...CLIFFORD!
