Principal Message

What a busy week we have had! Our K-5 staff has worked so hard to get ready for the return of students to the building and preparing to do both in person and online teaching. Bridger is so lucky to have such dedicated staff!!! I know that all these changes are difficult for families so I also want to thank you for being flexible and patient as we work out so many details.

I absolutely loved getting to see our K/1 families this Thursday and Friday and I’m looking forward to welcoming 2nd-5th graders on Monday. Since K-5 will be back at school, please plan on parking a block away and walking to school. If you must drive on Market Street, make sure you are driving East down the hill.

A reminder is that next Friday there will be no school so that teachers can complete report cards for the third quarter.

Finally we are really close to opening our new play structure but as of right now it is still closed. Please help us by not moving the fence to go into the construction area.

Enjoy this sunny weekend!

Library/Technology

Tech resource: If you need help with a technology issue such as using a hotspot, logging into a PPS Chromebook, using Seesaw, or getting started with Remind, take a look at the tech videos on our Library webpage. If you don’t find a video that supports your needs, please email me at djardine@pps.net

Beginning April 4, we will be offering book checkout in two ways: 1) All students and families can come to the back library door on Wednesdays from 2-4:30 to return books and check out new books. 2) Students in hybrid instruction will have the opportunity to get a new bag once a week. Students will return books to a cart in their classroom, and library staff will swap them for a new bag the following day. Your student’s teacher will let you know their class’ scheduled day for returns.

If you have questions, email library staff: Dawn Jardine (djardine@pps.net) or Brenda Jamsgard (bjamsgard@pps.net).

Please make sure your students continue to log into their library classroom and complete the weekly activities; lessons are posted in Seesaw by Monday morning and can be completed at any point throughout the week.

If your student is looking for resources for online reading, they can access many different options - including TumbleBooks, Storytime from Space, and our online catalog by visiting the Bridger Library web page here.

Counselor Corner

Ms LeAnne K-4:

With the new schedules, I want families to know that I will be in the building all day on Thursdays and Fridays each week. The other days, I will be working remotely. Ms Howard, our 5-8th grade counselor will be in the building on Mondays and Tuesdays. There will always be one of us available in the building to support students during hybrid. Meanwhile, I can always be reached at 971-378-0478.

EXCITING NEWS! With our new schedules, I’m making grade-level lunch bunches more frequent so students can be in the company of their peers. These times are optional, free of academic content, with the sole intent to build connections and have fun! They are a drop-in format. Starting April 5th they will be every week:

Mondays Kindergarten 11-11:40 Google Meet: Kmsleanne

Tuesdays First Grade 11-11:40 Google Meet: 1msleanne

Wednesdays Second Grade 11-11:40 Google Meet: 2msleanne

Thursdays Third Grade 11-11:40 Google Meet: 3msleanne

Fridays Fourth Grade 11-11:40 Google Meet: 4msleanne

Bridger’s 3-5th grade Gender Diversity Club will now be every Monday from 3-3:30! We’ll start this Monday, April 5th. The google meet code is GDCgizmo. Members younger than 3rd grade are welcome with parent permission.

Reading Tips

As we transition to a new schedule, you can use reading as an anchor. Ask your child about the books their teacher is reading. Ask who the characters were, and what they liked about it. Ask if they would like to read it again. Maybe it is available at the library?

Math Tips

In the next week we will all be adjusting to a new schedule and experiencing all the emotions that go with change. As your child tells you about their new day, see how many ways you can incorporate math. How many steps to their classroom? How far to the restroom? How many students in their new groupings?

A changing schedule is a perfect time for students to reflect on their learning. Take some time to have your child reflect on what they have learned so far this year in math and write a story problem that uses this new math. Think about a goal for the spring. If your child could improve or master one math idea for 4th quarter, what would it be?

Student Leaders

Our Middle School Student Council will meet next this Friday, April 2 at 1:10 pm Google Meet: bridgerstudentcouncil. All MS students are welcome.

The Elementary Student Council will changing times to meet now that we are moving to a new schedule. New date/time will be coming soon.

Last week our administrators sent out a newsletter which covered Covid-19 safety and building safety information, including notes taken during the safety walk-through. Many of the issues mentioned in these notes have already been addressed by our hard-working custodians! Two teachers on this walkthrough also mentioned a number of concerns about hazardous building materials (asbestos, lead). It is important to acknowledge these observations were not made by an environmental hazards expert, which is why PTA has put in a records request that will have professional assessments about these locations. We will share out these records with our community along with an explanation from an independent expert to ensure that our families have accurate, current information about the state of our building. If necessary, we may also request an independent assessment of the building. In the last newsletter, Ms. Schachner also shared a number of resources of how hazardous building materials are addressed by PPS.

If you are interested in registering yourself or your family members that meet the eligibility criteria to receive the vaccine at this time, please send me names and contact information of those who would like to be vaccinated so that I can try to register them for any upcoming vaccine clinics in the area.

Spots are very limited in these vaccine clinics, and a Latino Network Community Health Worker will work with individuals to find a vaccine clinic that meets the referred individual's needs.
