Broken Arrow Week 4 Recap
Directors Notes
"For you formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb." Psalm 139:13 (KJV) Let us meditate on this verse as we are learning the human body system this semester. How awesome is it that the God who created the whole universe formed us and covered us in the womb! MIND BLOWING!
We raised $192.80 for the Hurricane victims. WOW!!! Way to go. Please share this with your children. Once we know more about our adopted family we will share that information with you.
"I want to teach my students to define the structures of the cosmos, to observe the wonders that surround them, and to develop an appreciation for all realms of scientific inquiry. I want to inspire them to explore the natural world through a variety of activities, some scheduled and academic, some real life and serendipitous, and all of value in developing a curious mind." Leigh Bortins, The Core pg (186)
During the Foundation learns we are developing a love for learning, we are stoking the fires for imagination and curiosity. Let them wonder and imagine, even if it doesn't make sense to you. Explore nature together, get out side beyond the walls of your house and explore. It can be a simple as going in the back yard and taking time to look at the butterfly or preying mantis. Ask them questions and let them ask you questions.
This week at home for Foundations you should be reviewing week 1-4 Grammar with your children. We review six weeks back to help us keep the memory work fresh in our mind. If your child is going to try for Memory Master this is very important (more about Memory Master in the next weeks).
This week's history sentence matches up with Timeline card #108 American Revolution and General George Washington.
Please read your Foundations guide starting on page 31-38 titled The Classical Model at Home. Leigh Bortins discusses how scheduling looks at her house when she had little ones in the house. I think you will find what she has to say very helpful. It will give you a starting place for scheduling if you need some assistance.
For Week 5
Family Presentations - The Griffith Family
(You can be as creative as you want to be for family presentation. You can do a skit, tell us about your favorite state you have visited, a family tradition, favorite holiday and why, share a homeschooling tip that has really helped your family or maybe share a curriculum that your family really enjoys.)
Playground Duty - Lee/Williams
Suggested Oral Presentations: (remember you can always choose what you want your child to present, this is just a suggestion)
ABC/Apprentices: Art Presentation- Show and tell us about a favorite piece of Art. Choose a painting or picture from an art book, online or even something you created. Tell us what you like about it, how it makes you feel. Point out OILS if you can.
Journeymen/Masters:
Exposition: Art Presentation- Prepare an art project that uses the five basic elements of drawing. Point out the elements. Explain your piece and share about the medium it was completed in (paint, drawing, etc)
Skill to practice: Articulation - Speak clearly so your audience can understand you.
