Hands of Many Colors
Kegonsa art students of Emily Wellentin will have their Hands of Many Colors art banner on display during the Victorian Holiday Art Show in the Stoughton Public Library! The art show runs December 4 through January 7.
Second and Third Grade Kegonsa students put their knowledge of color theory into practice in their collaborative painting project. Each student traced their own hand and then invited three classmates to build on their project by adding additional hand prints.
Message from the District Administrator: School Safety Update
Dear Families:
As many of you are aware, earlier this week there were two different active threat incidents at the Waukesha and Oshkosh school districts. Although these incidents are becoming less and less uncommon for public schools, it still hurts whenever I hear or read about them.
The safety of our people – our students, our staff and our families – is of the utmost importance here in the Stoughton Area School District. In recent years, our District has implemented secured entrances at all five of our schools, provided more training for staff, incorporated new safety drills for students and instituted Raptor, a computerized background check system for all of our visitors. Just this last Monday (December 2), our Board of Education met and discussed additional steps our District has been planning to strengthen our safety program, including plans to further renovate our schools’ main entrances to ensure all visitors in every building are funneled directly to the main office to check in before accessing the premises. The new renovations also will include locking the main entrance exterior doors and implementing a more thorough verbal and visual screening process before visitors are admitted to our schools. This will be accomplished by standardizing processes in our front offices and updating our surveillance technology.
But as we improve our facilities and technology from a security standpoint, I did not want us to lose sight of the importance of communication when it comes to safety. Each of us has a role to play in that effort, and I again wanted to encourage you and your student(s) that if you ever see something, please say something to a member of our staff. Additionally, if you ever have any questions or concerns about our safety programs, please do not hesitate to reach out to your building principal. Thank you again for your help in creating a safe environment in our schools.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tim Onsager
