FOURTH GRADE NEWS

Welcome to Fourth Grade
- March 8 (Thursday) is Open House and Big Art Night from 6-7 PM here at school. Please come check out what your child is learning. Parents should stay with their children during these events. Any child that becomes lost or separated from their family can be found at the front office.
- As part of this year's health program, our students will receive age- appropriate instruction on puberty. Please see the attached letter from our nurse with more information.
- Texas students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades will participate in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) this spring. . STAAR tests include writing, reading, and mathematics at grade 4. A letter with further information about the upcoming STAAR test has been attached to the Smore.
- Spring Break is almost upon us, March 12th-16th! Have a relaxing break!
Language Arts
After spring break students will practice the skills learned from unit 4.
Reading Skills: expository text structures, identifying main ideas and details, cause-effect, problem-solution, sequencing, and compare and contrast.
Grammar: Quotation Marks, Appositives, contractions, and adverbs.

Writing: Expository Writing and Revising and Editing
Math
Our next unit will continue to focus on measurement. Students will need to find the area and perimeter of shapes as well as elapsed time.
The test is scheduled for Tuesday, March 27
Science/Social Studies
Weather Presentations: March 21st- 23rd
Unit Test (Part One- Short Answer): March 20th- Tuesday
Unit Test (Part Two- Multiple Choice): March 23rd- Friday
During our student of weather the students will be able to...
- Interpret weather maps and make predictions based on the information.
- Understand and communicate the importance of water and weather.
- Collect and record weather data.
- Describe and illustrate the continuous movement of the water cycle.
- Be able to explain the role of the sun.
Critical Vocabulary:
cold front/ warm front, weather maps, map key
Critical Vocabulary from a previous grade:
condensation, evaporation, precipitation, water cycle, climate, barometer, anemometer
This unit will be a project based experience for our students! They will be working within groups to create their own weather maps and forecasts!

- Parents, please remember to send your children to school with everything they will need to stay warm at recess.
- We would like to encourage your child to bring their electronic device. Electronic devices are being used in music, art, and guidance as well as the content area classes.
- SPARKLE Store will open tomorrow morning! Sparkles are an incentive that we give to our students throughout the day. These sparkles may be used on Fridays to buy privileges in the Sparkle Store. The Sparkle Store is open from 7:30-7:45 a.m. You will find a link below for what your students may buy with their sparkles.
