5th Grade Veteran's Day Program This Friday, November 10 at 8:00 am:
Speeding to Read Update:
We recently completed turn 1 of the competition, and the results are in. Seven Hills competes in the Pit Stop Division with 4 other schools. Seven Hills placed 4th with 86% of our students meeting their books read goal for turn 1. Our class and individual student leaders for turn 1 will be announced on Monday in a campus assembly.
Our campus Wildly Important Goal is that all students will meet or exceed end of year expectations in reading. In order to reach this goal, Seven Hills Leaders need to be reading every day! Speeding to Read is a fun way to help students get excited about reading and help students reach their goals. We are a week into turn 2. Please make sure your child is reading at home and logging their books. Reading logs should be in STAR folders. If you need a new log, please contact your child's teacher.
- For Turns 2, 3 and 4, the minimum goal is 25 books per turn for Kindergarten–2nd-grade students and six (6) chapter books for 3rd–5th-grade students.
We encourage students to set high goals and read over the minimum number of books each turn. We had many students read over the minimum and we’d like even more this time!
Note: Each turn starts over with the count of books. The books read in turn 1 do not count in turn 2.
UIL at 7 Hills:
Seven Hills Elementary will be participating in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) program again this year. UIL programs are designed to support the basic academic curriculum and allow students to apply what they have learned in the classroom in a competitive atmosphere. The district meet will be held on Thursday, January 25 and Thursday, February 1 from 4:00-6:30pm.** Bus service will be provided on both days. We are very excited that our students will have the opportunity to represent SHES at the UIL competition.
If your child is interested in trying out for a UIL team, please fill out the google form for your child’s grade. Students can only compete in 1 event so please only pick one choice. Students will bring home a note about tryouts once they have been placed on a preliminary team.
Forms must be filled out by Thursday, November 9.
We Are Learning About Habit 1:
- The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper
- The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss
- The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle
- Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Catcher by Bruce Coville
We encourage families to talk about the 7 Habits at home, and share ways students can be leaders both at home and school when they use the habits. What ideas can your family come up with to practice habit 1 at home?
Next week we will focus on Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

Safety Procedures in Northwest ISD
The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance in Northwest ISD. As a campus, we will practice various safety drills so that we are prepared for any possible scenario that could take place at your child’s campus. One of the emergency procedures that is used from time-to-time is the Shelter-in-Place. During this procedure, students are safe at all times, remain in the classroom and learning continues to take place as normal. The campus cannot legally explain why a Shelter-in-Place procedure is used. This is not to alarm you, but it is for legal confidentiality reasons, respect and the protection of our students or staff members. We do want to stress the fact that Shelter-in-Place is very different from a Lock-Down procedure. During a lock-down, all instruction is stopped.
If students are ever in any kind of danger, we will notify families immediately via email, phone call and website. If you ever have any questions about our safety drills and emergency procedures, please do not hesitate to contact our campus. Your children’s safety remains our top priority.
