Oklahoma State Law regarding attendance and truancy policies was reformed in May 2020.

As such, the ISOK attendance and truancy procedures were revised in July 2020,

and implemented in August 2020.

This resource is intended to provide families with further explanation of the school year 2021-2022 attendance and truancy policies and procedures for ISOK.

HB 2905, the Virtual Charter School Transparency and Reform Act of 2020, addresses and unifies transfer, attendance, student engagement and truancy policies.

The bill addresses attendance and student engagement policies for the virtual charter schools by defining the first date of attendance and membership and defining and changing the number of instructional activities required for each student.

Logging in to school is not enough to count for attendance.

Students must consistently complete instructional activities.

1. Attend Class Connect sessions, AND/ OR

2. Complete course work and assignments.

i.e. OMHS course work
i.e. assigned class programs such as USA TestPrep, ExactPath, Edmentum, etc.

You can also receive attendance credit for:

- completing school assessments

- instructional meetings with teachers

- attending orientations

- attending school outings, whether in person or virtual

Tier 1 Students

Completed over 75% of instructional activities.

Supported by teachers.

Regarding Truancy, these students are considered in good standing.

Example: In the 3rd week of the quarter, this is over 18 instructional activities.

Tier 2 Students

Completed 50%-74% of instructional activities.

Supported by Teachers.

Regarding Truancy, these students are slightly at risk.

Example: In the 3rd week of the quarter, this is 14-18 instructional activities.

Tier 3 Students

Completed 20%-49% of instructional activities.

Supported by Community Family Advisors.

Regarding Truancy, these students are more at risk for being withdrawn from ISOK.

Example: In the 3rd week of the quarter, this is 11 -13 instructional activities.

Tier 4 Students

Completed less than 20% of instructional activities.

Supported by school principals and the local-level Dropout and Truancy Specialist.

Regarding Truancy, these students are at risk of being withdrawn from ISOK. A certified letter will be sent to the family's residence with notice of withdrawal for truancy.

Example: In the 3rd week of the quarter, this is less than 11 instructional activities.

Notice that the number moves.

By week 4, the student should complete 32 assignments (4/9 of 72 = 32) to be in good standing.

Tier 4 would be 20% completion of 32 expected activities, which = 7.

So the student would need to do more than 7 things by week 4 or they will remain on the Tier 4 list.

By week 5, the student should complete 40 assignments (5/9 of 72 = 40) to be in good standing.

Tier 4 would be less than 20% completion of 40 expected activities, which = 8.

So the student would need to do more than 8 things by week 5 or they will remain on the Tier 4 list.

Notice this does not include being on track to complete 72 instructional activities for the quarter.

For example, if a student has completed 72 activities in the first two weeks of a quarter (meaning they will never be in Tiered support for the quarter), but then doesn’t do anything for the next 15 days AND has a course average below 60%, they are required to be withdrawn for actual truancy.
