Revised MNS Calendar & Preparations for Virtual and In-Person Learning Ahead
Dear Muskego Lakes Families,
On Monday, August 17th, the School Board took action on a Revised 2020-21 Calendar. Of particular note, you will see some days highlighted in blue. Those days are being designated for the following:
- Planned remote learning days, where students will be at home and will have designated learning to complete (November 23, 24, March 26, April 30).
- District custodial crews will engage in a thorough, deep cleaning of our respective buildings as well as reapply an antimicrobial protective product on high touch surfaces.
- Staff will be participating in professional learning aligned to ensure our students in both the virtual and in-person learning platforms are keeping pace with essential standards and assessments measuring those identified standards.
- One final change to note was made in February, where the red "No Student - Professional Day," was changed from February 26th to the 19th.
It was a great week at Muskego Lakes! This week we were able to reconnect with returning students and new students that came to walk their schedule and set up their locker. The smiles, excitement, and few tears of joy from our students was confirmation that the preparation to get ready for the 2020-21 school year so we can Stay Safe to Stay Open was all worth it! Thursday marked the official return of our teachers and staff to Muskego Lakes. While this year will look a bit different than past years, they were clear that they are up for the challenge and believe that together, this will be a great year!
This newsletter continues our weekly updates on preparation for virtual and in-person instruction. If you missed last week's update, you can access it using this LINK. We will send more updates your way next week.

Muskego Lakes Cross Country
Dear MLMS Families:
It has been brought to our attention that some families may not have seen the ONE PAGER sent in the May 22nd family newsletter. Please read over the one pager and click the links and watch the slideshow for information about cross country at Muskego Lakes this year.
There have been many meetings about sports this summer. It is the belief of Muskego coaches that we need kids back to play, but to do that we need to be in this together. The following are the guidelines for us to be able to practice and compete this year. Ultimately, we need to keep our social bubbles/groups as small as possible, be honest when/if we are not feeling well, and be responsible by staying 6 feet apart whenever possible. The following link is the PROTOCOL each athlete/family needs to agree to, sign and return on the first day of practice. I believe we can practice and keep everyone safe!
Lastly, if your child has agreed to be a POD leader, we will be meeting ONLY with POD leaders on the first day of school/practice at 3:15-4:30. Please plan to bring your things to the fifth grade wing and meet in Mrs. Warr’s room. We will start with all kids on Wednesday, Sept. 2nd.
We look forward to a great season this year!
Virtual Updates
5th & 6th Graders: Meet Your Teacher!
Hello Students and Families!
My name is Ms. Mazur and I will be your virtual instructor this year for the 5th and 6th grade. I am looking forward to watching you learn, grow, and experience new virtual adventures. I will be reaching out to everyone to schedule some time to meet to discuss what our virtual class will look like.
I really enjoy playing games like Mysterium, Settlers of Catan, and Gloomhaven. I also play role playing games with my friends, though we are virtual now. When I am not playing games, I do a lot of writing and have been published several times. I will become an Aunt in October, which I am very excited about. I have been an educator for 15 years with preschool programs before moving into working in Elementary schools for the past 2 years as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional.
I am looking forward to exploring some interesting topics and using my teaching skills to create an engaging and positive learning space in our virtual classroom. There is a lot we will be able to do and explore, even when we are apart. We will build our community up during this year and use this opportunity to explore new ideas and topics.
P.S: My cat, Zion, loves to listen to you all talk and read on my laptop. You will sometimes hear him purring or see his tail in the webcam! He will be one of your biggest fans.
7th & 8th Graders: Meet Your Teacher!
My name is Amy Veit. I am a graduate of UW-Madison, class of 1994, and earned my Master of Education Degree from Carroll College (University) in 2003. I have been blessed to have been in this district and at Lake Denoon Middle School since it opened its doors in 1999. I have had the privilege of teaching students in 6 - 7 - 8 grades in literacy, math, social studies, and support in science. In addition, I was one of the four teachers that started the Project i Program in 2011.
I have been married for 25 years and we have 3 children in the district (Isabella-MHS, Sophia-MHS, Beau-MLMS). In my spare time I am an active volunteer for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), and my husband and I founded and operate Sophia's Promise - a non-profit organization that helps newly diagnosed children with Type 1 Diabetes. For fun, the five of us have taken over 40 road trips around the United States including 29 trips to DisneyWorld. Some of the road trips have also included appearances on game shows such as Wheel of Fortune, Let's Make a Deal, and Family Game Night. I am looking forward to this new position to connect with the students and their families while supporting the 7th and 8th grade curriculum(s).
Electives for Virtual Learners
As with in-person learning, fifth and sixth graders will receive an exploratory sampling of electives. Seventh and eighth graders who chose Spanish or French will be enrolled in online Spanish and French. These classes will be supported by our French and Spanish teachers. You can read about the elective choices here.
Please respond to this survey to sign up for electives. Please complete this survey by the end of the day on Monday, August 24th.
In-Person Updates
1st Day - September 1st
Seating Charts in All Classes
The purpose behind seating charts and holding to them is to increase our ability to Stay Safe to Stay Open. Seating charts will allow us to complete contact tracing in the event a student tests positive for COVID-19. Holding to the seating charts will minimize the number of close contacts each student has which will reduce the number of potential students that would quarantine due to close contact.
Please preview this with your child prior to September 1st.

Last Chance to Walk Your Schedule and Settle Into Lockers
It's not too late for your child to walk their schedule and settle into their locker. Muskego Lakes will be open on Monday, August 24th from 10:00am - 6:00pm. In addition, 5th graders and new students to Muskego Lakes can pick up their Chromebook and get their finger scan completed between 4:00pm - 6:00pm.
To ensure that families are able to maintain physical distancing, we are asking families to sign up for a window of time to attend. Use the links below to sign up for a time:
