GRISSOM NEWS!
FEBRUARY 2017
Note to Parents:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Grissom Middle School has a strong tradition of supportive, hard working parents.
Throughout the year, parents have the opportunity to develop that partnership in a wide variety of ways. Parents join the PTO, volunteer around the building, help at the sporting events and in the concessions, help organize fundraisers, plan family nights and/or ask to sponsor clubs or activities. It is important to your child that you are involved in some way at school. It’s a way to let your child know you think his or her school is important.
Just because they are in middle school does not mean it is time to let them try out their own wings entirely by themselves, they still need a lot of support. We believe that as children grow and learn, they find joy and satisfaction in working closely with their families toward one common goal.
In addition, we will be participating in the Applied ISTEP+ testing February 27th through March 10th. This first session requires students to show their thinking by writing to a prompt and/or writing short a constructed response. The multiple choice or second session of the ISTEP+ testing will occur during the week of April 17th – May 5th. It is very important that all of our students have an opportunity to complete this testing process free of distractions or interruption. Please adjust student appointments around the testing schedule, if at all possible. The testing schedule will be posted on the Grissom webpage for review. Students who arrive late will need to make up these tests at another time, please do everything possible to make sure students arrive on time during these weeks.
In conclusion, you will soon have information mailed home in reference to the state and district’s electronic device policy during ISTEP testing. When that arrives, I ask that you please take time at home to again review this policy with your child (ren).
Sincerely,
Nathan Boyd, Principal

Do you like building things and solving problems? Do you like working with your hands? There is an exciting new opportunity coming your way very soon! Mr. Rosselit will be hosting a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) class that will take place after school.
PLTW is an exciting science program that works with critical thinking and problem solving. The curriculum is heavily project based, and will allow students to choose their own routes for analyzing and solving real world problems. This will be the first time ever this opportunity is offered at GMS, and if you are interested in participating in this program for multiple years, you need to start this year!
Applications are in the front office. Come fill out yours today!
