Greetings from the Principal
All Saints Day
Dear SMCS families,
If you would like to see our regular posts on Facebook, please join our private group! We post reminders of things that are coming up, pictures of activities our kids have been doing, and sometimes questions & answers that everyone might have. https://www.facebook.com/groups/598461940688181
THIS WEEK
It has been a wonderful couple of days here at St. Mary Elementary School. We had a school-wide movie and popcorn yesterday afternoon which was a great hit! Today we had nearly 40 of our 96 students dressed up as saints! There was a lot of excitement as students stopped teachers in the hallways to tell them facts about their saints. As Fr. Michael reminded us in Mass today, we are called to look to the saints as our guide for living a holy life. We are also asked to strive for doing the right thing (I added "when no one is looking!").
Finally, we will be having Catholic Charities come this week to pick up the generous donations of diapers and wipes that our community has provided for Respect Life Month. Thank you!!
COLD WEATHER
As the weather is changing, our goal is to keep the kids playing outside at recess as much as possible. Running around in fresh air is good for them and we enjoy watching them laugh and play. Please be sure to check the weather each day and send your child to school with appropriate clothing and footwear. We do have some items in our closet, but our supply is limited.
POPCORN!
Our goal is to bring back the tradition of having popcorn for the kids once a month. I will be sending out a sign up genius with some dates and times if you are ever interested in helping. Most of the dates will be on Fridays in the afternoon (but not all).
LAS POSADAs
Please mark the 19th of December on your calendar 5:30-7:00 pm. We will be hosting Las Posadas for our families. If you are not familiar with this beautiful tradition, it is an event that reenacts Mary and Joseph's search for a place for Mary to give birth to baby Jesus. Songs and prayers pay homage to the many "no's" that they received before they were given a humble stable to spend the night.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Crystal Blahnik

COLLECTING: GENTLY USED WINTER GEAR
If you have any gently used jackets, snow pants, snow boots or ski gloves, please consider bringing them to school for our winter closet. We have children here who can use these items. Thank you for your consideration! (please ensure that the zippers and/or buttons are in working order).
