Tiger Time News
News from the O.C. Taylor Principal, Lisa Pedevilla
July 26, 2020
Dear O.C. Taylor Families,
Happy Summer! I typically do not send Tiger Time News until the week before school starts; therefore, I apologize for encroaching upon your summer break. I feel our OCT families might like a little more information this school year. If you are new to O.C. Taylor, Tiger Time News is my weekly principal newsletter.
Our theme this school year is, "Go Get 'Em, Tiger!" We all know Tigers are fierce. The term fierce means robust, intense, strong, powerful, passionate, eager. That defines us. We are all of those words and especially during these unique times. I am excited to see you Go Get 'Em this year!
We are preparing for your little Tiger to start school online! We miss them SO much! From Governor's orders to Mayoral proclamations to county-wide requirements, school district administrators across the country are having to digest this ever-changing information and work within the parameters established by these numerous authorities. The teachers and staff have been working diligently all summer attending training sessions and learning about how to best engage our students in a remote environment. I have never seen teachers and administrators work so diligently over the summer with little to no time off. They are excited to put their new learning to use! I think you will be happy with our changes.
I know these times can be unsettling. Please know, above all else, the staff and teachers LOVE your child. We are more resolved than ever to show you and them. While we do not have all of the answers (and if we do, the answers seem to change), we are committed to doing our best for each child.
On Thursday, August 13 starting around 1:00 p.m., your child's homeroom teacher will be making a personal call to your child to welcome him/her to the class. We are talking about what we can do for Meet the Teacher! More to come soon. We want our Tigers to be able to see their teacher in person if possible and if you choose.
As I told my staff in the spring, the Covid-19 situation is complex and dynamic. In order to achieve the results we all want to achieve, it is more important now than ever to be unified. Let's hold hands and support one another during these times. We promise to realize you are trying your best if you will grant that perspective with us.
To the BEST of days,

OCT Summer and Back-to-School Updates
New Repository of Information Site - PLEASE BOOKMARK
Online Registration REQUIRED for Everyone
Families can continue to complete registration for the 2020-2021 school year. All registration will need to be completed online. So far, we only have 232 out of 531.
Even with Tuesday's order from TCPH, families will still choose either in-person or remote learning for their student(s) during registration. All students will begin the year virtually, but when in-person instruction is available, those that choose that option will receive instruction on campus.
Choosing your student(s) instructional option is critical to GCISD in preparing for when instruction begins. The District must have this information when planning for master schedules, classroom space, staffing, and how to best meet the needs of students when they return. While the District is asking parents to indicate a preference now, families will have an opportunity to update their selection at a later date.
For technical support regarding online registration, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

Meet the Teacher
While the beginning of the year activities will be limited, we are looking at opportunities for parents to connect with the school and staff, and for students to experience the excitement of the beginning of the year. More information to come shortly.
Be sure and have your phones on during the day on Thursday, August 13 as your teacher will be making a personal phone call introducing themselves.
Parents, we need your input!
Beginning Tuesday, September 8, OCT will be hosting at least three scheduled parent input sessions on Webex. These sessions will be 25-30 minutes long and we will be capping each session at 10 people. These sessions are first come first served. If you are interested in sharing your experience with the OCT administration, we will have time for you to sign up next week.
