Fun With Firsties

Curriculum Highlights

Language Arts-This week, we will begin Unit 7 in our Superkids series. We will read the story Kites. While reading we will focus on comprehension strategies such as recognizing plot, and answering questions about the story. We will learn the "Super E" rule this week as we learn how the silent e makes short vowels long. We will also have a new list of Memory Words-check those folders so you can practice those words at home this week.

Math-This week we will finish up the remaining lessons in Topic 6. We will continue to practice our subtraction facts to 20. At the end of the week we will take the Topic 6 assessment.

Religion-We will move along to Chapter 10 this week in our Call To Faith book.

Social Studies-Our Patriotic Play preparations are underway! Our lessons throughout the month will identify important American patriots and key American symbols.

Notes To The Fabulous Folks

  • Wintery weather has arrived in Pasadena! A reminder that all coats, jackets, umbrellas, and other school items should be clearly marked with your student's name.
  • Superkids Update-The Superkids website continues to be up and running. The website is full of many stories and games that directly relate to the curriculum being taught in the classroom. This website is a valuable resource and the perfect way to continue to enhance your child's literacy experience. In addition to the assigned nightly homework, we recommend that you and your child spend some time on the website 2-3 times a week. If you need assistance or have trouble logging in, please contact your child's teacher.
