From School Administration
Time has moved by quickly and we are more than halfway through the first quarter of the 2021-2022 school year! I want to share some important information and updates with you as we start to wind down the first quarter of the school year.
Arrival and Dismissal
We are thankful for your patience and focus on the safety of all children during both arrival and dismissal. Please continue to follow the directions of the school staff members as their directions and decisions are based on the safe delivery or pick-up of every child who attends Lisbon. As a school community, we can work together to protect each of our students.
Mid-Quarter, Grading, Conferences, and Report Cards
In prior school years, we have issued interim progress reports halfway through each quarter. This year, HCPSS has determined that we are no longer sharing these reports. The first-quarter report card will be issued on Wednesday, November 10. All academic areas will have grades except related arts classes. Related Arts teachers will report student progress and grades at the end of the second and fourth quarters. Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place between November 22 and 24. Specific sign-up information will be shared soon. In the meantime, your child’s teachers are uploading information on graded assignments in Canvas on a regular basis. For more information about how to access your child’s grades in Canvas, please find a guide at this link. If you have additional questions please contact your child’s teacher. You can find the email addresses of each of our staff members at this link. Finally, please review the information in this newsletter about learning behaviors. Teachers will be reporting the learning behaviors on the report cards. Strong learning behaviors have a powerful influence and impact on student performance.
I hope that each of you have a wonderful three-day weekend with time for family, friends, and rest!

Learning Behaviors and Report Cards
Learning Behaviors are learned actions that enable students to access learning and interact with others productively in the community. These behaviors are developed in and outside of school.
Additionally, Learning Behaviors help with understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining positive relationships, and making responsible decisions - all are essential life skills.
They complement the curriculum content taught in the elementary grades and are a natural part of learning about oneself while interacting with others.
These behaviors were drafted and revised several times based on feedback from teachers, administrators, curriculum staff, and parent advisory committees.
REPORT CARD LANGUAGE AND INDICATORS
Indicators are provided to give greater detail about each learning behavior. These indicators give students, families, and teachers a sense of what the learning behavior means or how it might be demonstrated. The indicators help guide teachers as they consider and report on the learning behavior. The indicators are not a checklist. All indicators do not have to be present to meet expectations of the learning behavior. There are five learning behaviors reported on the elementary report card:

- Contributes positively to the classroom and school community

Please visit the HCPSS website here with complete information regarding learning behaviors on the report card.
Volunteer/Observer Vaccine Requirement
Effective Monday, Oct. 25, all volunteers and chaperones who interact with students, and parents/guardians who are conducting classroom observations will be required to use the PinPoint platform to show proof of full vaccination at least five school days in advance. The requirement also applies to students who volunteer or mentor at a different school during the school day, but not to students who go to the ARL or another school as part of their class schedule.
Use the PinPoint Vaccine Check platform to verify your vaccination status. The following information will be required during the process:
- The school(s) you will enter during the school day during the 2021-2022 school year. You should only use this platform once. If you need to enter an additional school later in the year, please notify school_volunteers@hcpss.org.
- CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card: Uploading your COVID-19 vaccination card is not a requirement of the PinPoint system. If you experience issues uploading your card, please select the “I do not have my card” option and proceed with the VaccineCheck verification process.
- Vaccination dose date(s):
- If you do not know the date(s) you received the vaccine, you will still be able to verify your vaccination status by providing additional information.
- If you got vaccinated in Maryland, consider accessing Maryland MyIR to view your “Certification of COVID-19 Vaccination” document which includes your dose dates.
- Photo: The platform will ask you to upload a photo of yourself for your digital vaccine card. This is optional.
- Registration Number: The platform will provide you with a registration number at the end of the process. Please write down or screenshot the number so you can use it if you wish to download your digital vaccine card once available, which is optional. Receiving your digital vaccine card is not a requirement for entry to the school.
If you have questions about how to use the platform, please contact PinPoint’s support team by emailing hcpss@pinpoint.us or calling 888-750-2247.

INFORMATION WORTH REPEATING
Lisbon Halloween Celebrations
Halloween Parade
This year's Halloween Parade and classroom activities have been adjusted due to COVID-19 and Howard County's updated guidelines regarding school visitors, which state "visitors are not permitted to attend events that occur indoors or outdoors during the school day."
On Friday, October 29, 2021, Lisbon ES will celebrate Halloween with a few adjustments. Our annual parade and classroom activities will be limited to students and staff only. With all the guidelines in place, classrooms will have fall activities but unfortunately we will be unable to have food. Due to logistical concerns, student costumes MUST fit over top of your child's clothing so they can get dressed inside the classroom and independently. Please think through your child's costume choice, as they will need to put it on with little to no assistance. Mask mandates are still in effect, therefore we ask that you think about any costume masks that your child will be wearing over their face mask.
Please review the following reminders/updates.
- Any costumes that perpetuate violence, have any blood, gore, scary masks, or contain any type of weapons are prohibited. Props that come with costumes that are “play weapons” are not allowed in school. This includes but is not limited to toy guns, knives, swords, sickles, pitchforks, etc.
- If you prefer that your child does not take part in the parade, please send a note to your child’s teacher or contact Mrs. Anoff at debra_anoff@hcpss.org.
- Thank you for your cooperation.
