IOSA hosts four Saturday workshops throughout the year at Carmel Elementary. Included in this newsletter are the remaining clinicians for the 2023-2024 school year, information on our instrument repair social event, the application to present at our Chapter Share, a mini lesson, summer levels course scholarship information, and more!

Event Details: Saturday, February 3rd from 9am-11:30am, then lunch afterwards
Bring a broken instrument and come learn all things "barred instrument repair" from AOSA's president Josh Southard. IOSA will provide all general repair equipment such as wood glue, pliers, hammers, nails, etc., but event attendees are responsible for pre-ordering instrument specific equipment such as bar pins or tubing. After the barred instrument repair time, we will all go out for a social lunch at a nearby restaurant!

Interested in Presenting at our April Chapter Share?
New this year we are taking applications for those who would like to present at our Chapter Share workshop on Saturday, April 13th.
Presentations should last 30-45 minutes, be well planned and conceived in advanced, and should be valuable to the other members of our chapter. Presenters will be selected blindly by the IOSA Board and announced to the chapter at least one month prior to the workshop. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
Applications are due by February 20th.

IOSA Scholarship Opportunity
The IOSA tuition scholarship is now posted and accepting applications! Applicants must be members in good standing who are enrolled or planning to enrolled in an approved AOSA Levels course for the summer of 2024. Applications are due by April 1st, 2024.

IOSA wants to see you at our Saturday workshops!! Please know that school-aged children are ALWAYS welcome at our workshops! We love including them in our activities and experiencing our professional development right alongside the people it is most important to, our children! Restrooms are conveniently at hands and snacks are always provided! We would love to see you, and your children, at our workshops this year!

About Deb Navin
Deb Navin teaches General Music in Birmingham Public Schools in Michigan. Deb holds a BM in Music Education from the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY and a MS in Elementary Education from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. She is certified in Orff-Schulwerk and has trained in Music Learning Theory and World Music Drumming. She has taught General Music, Choir, and Band in public and private schools in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. She is a frequent national presenter for music teacher workshops and has served on the board for the American Orff Schulwerk Association. Deb plays the Piano, Harp, Flute, Guitar, and Handbells. She lives with her three children and husband in Royal Oak, Michigan.
