1:1 Parent Meetings
Thank you for building positive relationships with all families! We are currently at 82% parent participation rate! Help us reach our 95% parent participation goal. Thank you to staff that turned in feedback and participation forms to Hassan.
Please turn in your feedback and participation form to Hassan. Currently 84% of teachers have returned forms.
Please continue to remind scholars to walk in a LAZER line when returning from recess. If scholars are not lining up from recess, they should be given a detention slip by their homeroom teacher. The detention area will be on the upper yard and their slip should be signed by an adult. Please feel free to read more about it here
Mandated Reporter Training--DUE BY OCTOBER 14
All OUSD staff must complete their annual mandated reporter training. By law, this training must be completed every year by all school district employees. This year, all training is provided online through PDGo--you can log in--here using your OUSD gmail account. Then click on the link to "Keenan Safeschools." If you have any questions, please contact Seth Eckstein at Seth.Eckstein@ousd.org.
Updates and Announcements
Donors Choose
Congratulations to everyone who received funding for projects through Donors Choose. It takes about 20 minutes to set up an account and write a proposal for your project. This month, teachers at Garfield had the following projects funded:
- Ms. Calef--Cozy Carpet for Science Discussions
- Ms. Baugher--Classroom Supplies to Fuel the Year
- Ms. Landheer--Building a Diverse Library for our Room
If I missed your project, please send me an email and I will make sure to include it in next week's Wildcat Weekly. Typically, Garfield receive's a fax that let's us know that a project was funded.
Safety Patrol
4th and 5th grade teachers, are there emerging leaders in your class that exhibit the traits of maturity, responsibility and leadership? If so, they may be ideal candidates to serve on Garfield's School Safety Patrol. In the coming weeks, Oakland School Safety Patrol will visit Garfield and present a 5-minute presentation to your class about the program as well as distribute applications to students of interest.
La Clinica Dental Services at Garfield
In an effort to increase access to health and wellness, for our scholars, our partners at La Clinica will be providing 6 weeks of on-site dental services to our kiddies BUT they require parental consent. As you engage parents, please encourage them to return dental consent forms (provided during registration) for their children. Please let me know if you require additional dental consents.
Teacher's College PD
Last Friday, 3-5th grade teachers were able to participate in a Teacher's College PD. We are lucky that we were able to have staffers come to Garfield earlier in the school year. At Garfield, we want to try to limit the number of staff off site on Teacher's Garfield PD days. We typically have 4-5 subs on site supporting classes that are participating in PD. Thank you Katie Wolfram and Katie McLane for supporting on Friday with the sub schedule! Thank you teachers who took additional scholars on Friday!
Garfield is on Instagram
Follow our Instagram page! IG: garfield_elementary_school to see all the wonderful things happening at our school. Please send Hassan any videos or photos that you'd like shared with the community and he will be sure to add them. If you have a caption that provides context, please send that along with your images.
