Haiku in the Hills
Let's celebrate our village through haiku!
Ottawa Hills-Themed Haikus
Each year, OHES celebrates Poem in Your Pocket Day by sharing poems that we've written or found. This year, we're going to write haikus, and they're going to celebrate Ottawa Hills!
Writing a haiku is simple
A haiku has three lines that follow a format:
- 5 syllables................(e.g. down the sledding hill)
- 7 syllables................(e.g. a fifty year old parent)
- 5 syllables..................(e.g. oh my aching back)
Down the sledding hill
a fifty year old parent
oh my aching back
Let's celebrate Ottawa Hills with our haikus! You could write your haiku about:
- the sledding hill
- Geresy Field
- the Old Gym
- Brookside Rd.
- the deer
- the LMC
- your teacher
- Indian Rd.
- the Spring Carnival
- the lampposts
- the sculpture garden
- the Ottawa River
- the Homecoming Parade
- the Meadow
- the police officers
- the Fall Festival
- or hundreds of other things!
Students can write their haikus in school or at home. Teachers, parents, and all family members are invited to write haikus, too!
The deadline for your OH haikus is Friday May 4. We will share them for Poem in Your Pocket Day on Wednesday May 9.
Please turn in haikus to your child's teacher, to Mrs. McLean, or email them to:
Thanks for participating in the fun!
