FREE BOOKS!!!!
Summer cleaning is taking place at the AAMU/UAH Regional Inservice Center. We are purging our lending library. Attached are a few books we would like to donate to your school or personal library. Please contact Ms. Andrea Huff to set up a time to browse and shop. FREE books will be available until June 1. We hope you take advantage of this opportunity.
Dyslexia Simulation Training
The AAMU/UAH Regional Inservice Center in partnership with ARI will have two Dyslexia Simulation training sessions. This dyslexia simulation is a hands-on experience designed to increase awareness of the difficulties and frustration that individuals with dyslexia (specific language learning challenge) encounter daily.
During this training, participants will be able to engage in situations designed to stimulate various language –related tasks similar to those encountered in the classroom and workplace. Each experience will last approximately 10-15 minutes allowing time for debriefing and reflection led by a trained facilitator.
This session is appropriate for teachers grades K-12; Special Education teachers (K-12), Instructional Coaches/Partners, and Administrators.
Sessions scheduled for June 1 8:30 am - 11:30 am and 12:30 - 3:30 and July 24 8:30 am - 11:30 am and 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm. Register on STIPD.
Book Study Opportunities
- Is there a book that you are interested in using in a book study? The AAMU/UAH Regional Inservice Center is looking for ways to support local school systems and schools in developing Professional Learning Communities through books studies. The deadline to submit applications is Thursday, June 1. Find the application and more information on our website.
- The AAMU/UAH Regional Inservice Center is looking to begin several online book studies. The goal of these studies is to create a culture of sharing and professional dialogue. Teachers across Region 3 will read and discuss current educational research. If you are interested in participating and have a book that you would like to study send your name and book ideas to Dr. Tammy Alexander at tammy.alexander@aamu.edu.
Gulf Coast Writing Conference
30 Years of celebrating writing in Alabama!
- Join teachers from across Alabama in workshops, June 26-29, 2017, as speakers share their experiences and techniques to encourage and inspire writing. Registration forms here.

Number Talks workshop
Make plans now to attend two math workshops this summer-
July 18, 2017 Sherry Parrish will present Number Talks: Fractions, Decimals, and Percents. On July 19,2017 Sherry Parrish will present Number Talks: Helping children build mental math and computation. Additionally Graham Fletcher will have a session on "Mathematizing the Elementary Classroom" on July 19th. Join us for two days of fun learning math concepts!
