Orchard Lane Elementary School
Weekly Newsletter: March 12, 2021
A Note from Mr. Lindner and Mrs. Kader:
Good Afternoon, Orchard Lane families!
This week we began our celebration of Women’s History Month with lessons on the following topics:
The 19th Amendment was ratified in 1920 which finally guaranteed women’s right to vote in political elections
We highlighted Susan B. Anthony’s contributions to women’s rights and her important role in our history.
We are excited to announce that we have 10 more lessons planned for this month. We have a phenomenal group of sixth grade students who will be leading these learning sessions.
As the weather warms up we are going to get more and more walkers and bike riders. Drivers, please be extra careful as you drive in and out of our pick up area. Attached is the map of the route we want drivers to take to get into the pick up and drop off line. Using this route helps avoid turning left into our school AND it prevents the need to perform U or Y turns on Park Ave. Thank you!!

Give Education Day 3/24
Give-Education Day is a chance to honor our very own front line workers with a donation to the SDNB. While some school districts are just now starting to get back in the classroom, the SDNB has had our doors opened all year, offering New Berlin families a choice between in-person and a robust virtual experience. Donations will be used to recognize and reward staff for their extra efforts during these COVID times. Consider a $20 donation in recognition of a successful 2020-21 school year. Parent University Lecture Series: Calm Parents, Calm Kids: Managing Your Own Reactivity (Virtual)
Tuesday, March 23, 6:00 - 7:00 pm
Presented by: Growing Minds Inc.
Though your body doesn't speak to you when stressed, it does send ongoing signals in the form of feelings and sensations. Noticing those feelings can soften them, allowing you to move beyond the stress. Consistently modeling the mindful behavior you wish to see in your children produces ripple effects that will benefit your entire family. Learn to identify and document your stress signature so that when you feel strong emotions inhibiting your wellbeing, you can "name them to tame them".

A note from our school psychologist, Dr. Nancy Ulschmid -
Did you know......that OL has a collection of books to help parents (and teachers), and student's themselves enhance social-emotional functioning? I started the collection a number of years ago using funds provided by the PFC (thank you!) and other school funds and we currently have 70 books in our collection! The books are bar-coded in the Parents section and include informational books for parents about various social/emotional/behavioral concerns, books for kids to read about characters who have similar problems/issues to solve, as well as, Self-help books for kids. If you are interested in exploring our collection I can help you choose the most appropriate book for you and your child. Books are checked out in the student's name, but please know that checking out one of these books will not affect your student's book limit.
I am always on the look-out for new book titles, so if you have read a book that you thought was particularly helpful, please let me know!
If you are interested in exploring our book collection or have a great book in mind that you think would be a good addition to our collection, please reach out to me at: nancy.ulschmid@nbexcellence.org or 262 789-6513
