We will be getting times for that soon. Those performing solos or duets on Wednesday, April 24th at Papio South are: Amal Abdelhamid, Paisley Bernth, Barrett Bumsted, Aaniyah Collins, Drew Darnold, Sydney DeLong, Aubrey Degerness, Brady Del Campo, Athanasia Fulmer, Keain Irwin, Tyson Johnson, Caeli Karasek, Madeline Lane, Morgan Locklear, Marah McDougal, Emmy Middleton, Ruthie Moore, Jodi Novak, Eli Olson, Jax Poole, Leah Rathke, Sophie Spence, Creighton Thornton, James Tucker, Gavin Turecek, Joey Westerdale and Abigail Weyermuller. Third Period Choir will be participating in Elkhorn on either Thursday or Friday of that week - still waiting for a schedule from the Elkhorn SD. All of these days are free and open to the public. DMC is a more self-directed option for kids, though there are sign-up sheets for them to rehearse in before or after school lessons with Mr. Johnson, Mr. Dugdale and/or Ms. Amarnath. We are so proud of the work these kids are doing!
Beauty and the Beast Tea Party
The Vocal Music and Theater Department production of Beauty and the Beast is coming up in a month. The kids have been working hard on it since January and are excited that things are really shaping up. On Sunday, April 28th, we have a neat opportunity for young and old alike. We will be hosting a tea party with characters and cast of our production. There will be raffles, photo opportunities for the kids with the cast members, special cast interactions, Princess Hair tinsel applications, face painting, treats and drinks, musical performances and more! Tickets need to be reserved by April 21st. The musical runs May 2-5. Come and be a part of a magical afternoon!
SCA - More Details Sign-Up Info
It has been great getting so many questions and inquiries about SCA. It sounds like we are going to have a wonderful group of PLS kids going this year! For those signed up or for those still thinking about it, here are some additional details (Much more specific details to come in May for those who put the deposit in and are planning on going):
Timeframe: We will leave around 5:00 a.m. on the morning of June 16th and drive - as a group - to Decatur, Illinois. We will leave to come back home immediately following the concert on Saturday, June 22nd (around 5:00-6:00 p.m.), stay overnight in a hotel in Macon, MO, then drive the rest of the way home on Sunday and get back to Papillion between noon and 1:00.
Do we actually learn a show? YES! You will learn and perform 3 choreographed songs and a ballad. There will be a free concert open to the public on Saturday, June 22nd at 1:00 p.m. We often have parents come to that concert, then take they kids home, continue on a vacation, or send them back with us. It is certainly not required for parents to come to the concert, but you are absolutely invited to if you would like.
Activities: Every night there is an activity. There is always a concert - a show choir performance, a Broadway star, a professional a cappella pop ensemble, a talent show - followed by an activity - and ice cream social, a dance, a pizza party, another dance, etc.
Sessions: The website has lots of information about all of the interest sessions the kids can attend. There are some sessions that are staples year in and year out, some of them are unique to that summer depending on what adjunct clinicians and presenters are hired on for that year. There is something every day for everyone!
Skill Level/Experience: The beauty of the camp is that the groups take every student where they are at. Some of our kids would consider themselves better singers than dancers (myself included). Sometimes the choreo is a bit tougher to get down right away. Some kids feel they are better dancers than singers. For those, the singing can be a vulnerable and scary learning experience. Either way, and everywhere in between, there are kids learning the same material. There will be kids there who are brand new to show choir and some who have been doing it for years. Do not let skill level be a reason to not go....EVERYBODY will learn something, especially about themselves.
Registration: You can register for the camp online, nothing goes through me. Once we get into May, I will reach out to them about who from our school is going and I will send supplemental info to them and their parents. The QR code above will take you to showchoircamps.com where there is more information. NOTE: We will go to the Millikin location on June 16-23.
Please reach out if you have more questions.
2025 Show Choir Auditions
Show Choir auditions for next year will be held on Saturday, April 6th. We will have prep classes each evening after school on the Monday-Friday prior to that. Those classes will be held in the flex space and will run from 5:00-7:00 p.m. This will allow the incoming 9th graders some time to do their after-school practices and then come to the high school. If students are planning to stay after school before those lessons, please bring food to eat so that no one gets sick from a lack of eating. Also, please bring a pencil and a water bottle. There will be a Sign-Up Genius put out on Tuesday or Wednesday of that week for students to pick a time that works best for their schedule. Music and rehearsal tracks have already been uploaded to the choir website - https://plsouthshowchoirs.yolasite.com/ - and choreography videos will be uploaded starting on Monday, April 1st.
