Intermediate
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
The safety of our students is a priority and your support will assure that everyone arrives safely and can be on their way home in a timely and efficient manner. We ask that you review the following procedures carefully before the first day of school to become familiar with our daily arrival and dismissal procedures. We will have staff members in the parking lot to guide you through. We look forward to seeing all of you soon.
Pick Up Procedures
Cars will enter the large parking lot off of Red Arrow Highway.
Cars will enter at the farthest entrance from the building and use the exit closest to the building for departure.
Please do not park or wait to pick up your child/children on S West Street or any side streets.
Coloma Elementary School students, who have siblings at the Intermediate School, will be walked down to the Intermediate building to join their sibling(s) by the front office door. Intermediate students do not walk to the Elementary to get picked up.
Staff members in the parking lot will notify staff members inside by walkie talkie when parents arrive and are in the correct line for pick up.
Students will cross the road using the crossing guard. From there, students will be dismissed, by staff members, to individual cars.
For safety reasons, please do not attempt to get your child/children until they have been dismissed by the staff member on duty.
Parents/guardians are asked to remain in their vehicles and remain in the car rider line.
If your student needs to be picked up from school early, please pick them up before 3:00 and sign them out of the office. You will be asked to join the car rider line if you arrive at the building after 3:00.
Right Lane: The right line in the parking lot is for parents picking up Coloma Intermediate students only.
Left Lane: The left line in the parking lot is for parents picking up both Coloma Intermediate and Coloma Elementary students.
Morning Arrival Procedures
Cars will enter the large parking lot off of Red Arrow Highway.
Cars will enter at the farthest entrance from the building and use the exit closest to the building for departure.
Please do not park or drop off your child/children on S West Street or any side streets.
Students will cross the road using the crossing guard.
Students will wait next to the main entrance door.
Doors open at 7:45am
Students are not allowed to play on the playground before school as their is not supervision on the playground.
Walkers
Students enter and exit at the main entrance located on the East end of the building. The main entrance door opens at 7:45am. Students who arrive before 7:45am will wait quietly at the main entrance door and are not allowed to playground due to the lack of supervision. A bicycle rack is available for those students who ride a bike to school.
Arriving Late
Students arriving after the 8:10 am start time will be counted as tardy and need to be checked in at the office by the parent. Students who arrive after 9:25 am are counted as absent for the morning. Any class time instruction missed is detrimental to the student’s learning. Therefore leaving early is treated the same as arriving late. Students leaving after 2:00 pm will be considered an “early leave” and count towards truancy equally with morning tardies.
Early Leave Pick Up Procedures
If your student needs to be picked up from school early, please pick them up before 3:00 and sign them out of the office. You will be asked to join the car rider line if you arrive at the building after 3:00.
We encourage parents/guardians to arrange appointments after school hours when possible. Any student leaving the building before dismissal will be required to be signed out through the office and must be picked up in the office.
Changing Daily Routines
If it is necessary for your child to ride a different bus or have some other change in his/her normal routine, please send a note with the student, or contact the office staff prior to 2:55 pm. We do not accept changes over the phone after 2:55 pm. The office must be notified if there are any of the following changes for your student:
They are not riding the bus home.
They are riding a different bus.
They are getting off at a different place.
They are going home with someone--in such cases both families must send permission notes. (pre-authorization by transportation departments is required)
